Kakashi released me from his tight embrace when we heard someone clear their throat.
"I apologize for interrupting, Nanami it has been a while."
"Iruka!? Wow, you have changed!" I practically shouted as I stood up and pulled him into a hug.
"What brings you around here Iruka?" Asked Asuma.
"Well I promised Naruto some ramen earlier." He replied while rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
"I wish I could eat ramen." I announced with a gloomy aura.
"But I'm stuck with these for a whole month." I finished as I threw a liquefied packet onto the table.
"What is that?!"
"Kurenai, I introduce you to the best food in all of Konoha."
"Is it that great?"
"Sure, want to try it?" I offered.
I opened the packet before handing it to her. The face she made when she tried it was priceless.
"How can you drink this?!" She asked between failed attempts to vomit.
"I've gotten used to it."
Asuma, Iruka, and Kakashi had the same reaction after trying it. They were beyond surprised to see me drink it without a problem.
"I just want real food already."
"I'll treat you to ramen if you'd like." Offered Iruka.
"Have you forgotten her appetite?!" Asked Asuma.
"Not at all."
"Thanks for the offer Iruka, but I'm sure your hands are full with Naruto. I mean c'mon I'm the one to blame for his love of ramen, it was the only thing I found easy to feed him back then."
After a short pause I decided to verify.
"He does like ramen right?"
"Like is an understatement, he loves ramen."
"That's my boy." I answered with a huge smile.
"Then you won't mind paying half will you?"
"Ohh no you offered not me." I laughed.
"Nanami, it isn't really you to turn down an offer to free ramen. You ok?" Asked Asuma in worry.
"Nothing gets past you little one." I replied while ruffling his hair.
"To answer your question, it's not that I won't eat it but I can't. My body simply won't allow anything other than liquids for the time being."
"So how long are you stuck with these?" Asked Kakashi.
"A whole month. Can you believe it Kakashi?" I replied sadly.
"Then when your month is over I'll treat you to all you can eat ramen."
"Really?!"
He nodded in simple response as I threw my arms around him and nuzzled my face into his neck.
"My hero!" I announced.
"I thought I was your hero!" Asuma shouted in jealousy.
"Don't get jealous little brother, you are my number one hero, but Kakashi is my other hero."
Asuma was satisfied with my answer as Kurenai laughed at us.
"You two haven't changed at all."
"Iruka-Sensei!!" Shouted a boy with bright orange clothing from the doorway.
"You haven't forgotten you owe me ramen have you?!"
"Just like Nanami." Whispered Asuma.
"Not at all Naruto, I was simply catching up with an old friend I haven't seen in years." He answered calmly while patting the boy's head.
As I watched their interaction I shifted myself onto Kakashi's lap without being aware of it. I was cradling his lap with my legs on either side of him as my face was still nuzzled into his neck.
"You want to hold him don't you?" Asked Kakashi in a whisper.
"Yes, very badly. I want to tell him how much I missed him and that I kept my promise, but I'm sure he has long forgotten."
As the tears silently left my eyes I gripped onto Kakashi's jounin jacket to refrain from crying out loud.
For a split second before exiting, Naruto's eyes met mine and I saw curiosity spark in his eyes.
As soon as they left I cried harder than I probably ever have as Kakashi rocked me back and forth while rubbing my back.
"Shh it'll be alright."
"Kakashi...my little boy...doesn't remember... his...mommy."
3rd POV
"Sensei?"
"Yes Naruto?"
"Who was the lady at the Yakiniku Q?"
"Which one?"
"The sad one with the blue eyes."
"Nanami?"
"Why does she seem so familiar. Her name I think I've heard it before and her face I've dreamed of her before."
The older man looked at the boy in confusion.
"Whenever she's in my dreams I call her mom and she's always smiling and telling me she loves me and wants to see me reach my dream."
"She-"
"Believe it sensei! It isn't because I feel lonely that I've made her up! It's as if I new her and she belongs beside me. As my mom, as a light, as support."
The man smiled kindly at the boy as he placed a hand on his head.
"There are a lot of things I want to tell you about her, but it isn't my place to do so. If you wish to know more about her you must ask for yourself."
The boy crossed his arms in frustration and headed for Ichiraku's with a single question running through his mind.
'Why was she crying?'
At Yakiniku Q
Nanami had fallen asleep in Kakashi's arms after her cries.
"I'll take Nanami home."
"Go on ahead I'll take her bags later, just get her home safely and thank you Kakashi."
"There's no need for it."
"Yes there is. It's to thank you for not staying mad at my sister when it was my fault and even if you don't ever forgive me I don't want you to hold a grudge on her because of me. She knows nothing about what I said."
"That has already been forgotten. All that matters is that she's back in my arms. From today Asuma, I promise you I will take care of her and I won't ever let her leave again."
Asuma was taken aback by Kakashi's sudden declaration but smiled knowing his words were sincere.
"I put my trust in you Kakashi. Take good care of her."
