Game on Chapter 3

Ace’s POV

Once we’d eaten some more gummy bears and had more water we made party cake. Vick and I invented it four years ago and now we had it every party. The day I got back Vick made me party cake. He came with the headmistress to welcome me back and gave me a big hug. I’d missed him the most out of everyone because he made me feel safe and at home. We made confetti angel food bunt cake with vanilla icing with the two matching flavors of pop rocks and pixy sticks. I had made them work that way on purpose so there were three pairs of them. I had one third grape, the second third tropical punch and the last third cherry. We put gummy bears all over and dumped some brightly covered candy balls and sprinkles of everything kind. We melted pixy sticks and made them into suckers attaching them to the cake. We hid it carefully and headed back up to the room. “Remember the last prank morning”, I laughed.

“Jake ended up wearing Daniela’s bikini on the roof”, he snorted.

“You threw a snowball at him and he chased you around the school”, I nodded.

“Until you tripped him and he did a face plant into a puddle full of mud”, he said proudly.

“I’m sorry I left”, I said absentmindedly.

“What?” he said confused.

“Two years ago when I left remember”, I said calmly, “I never should left in the first place”.

“Yes you did”, he said as we walked outside. I looked over at him surprised by his words out of everyone I thought he’d be the first to declare it my stupidest decision ever. “You had to go after your brother you promised him and you lost your brother but if you hadn’t killed him you’d fear him which is much worse”, he explained.

“Thanks Vic”, I said relieved, “it won’t be happening again though so if any of my other friends go Strigoi someone else can stake them”.

“Good to know and since we’re on the subject you grounded to the school until we graduate then you get a full five minutes of freedom before you pick your Moroi and you’re grounded to them speaking of guardian duty have you chosen your Moroi yet”, he questioned.

“Not yet field experience starts on Monday so today I’ll try to decide”, I shrugged.

“Cool, are you ready to protect your Moroi?” he asked.

“Ready as I can be”, I said opening my door now that we’d arrived. Everyone saw the party cake when we sat it down and everyone took a slice exchanging looks. Today was our last chance to have a normal life because tomorrow training really started. We started eating and fresh laughter broke out and we were all on the ground in hysterics. Candy made us laugh we were a weird crew. Most of our year was in this room at least the ones we could stand. We finished our cake making faces the whole time and everyone, even the guys giggled when the pop rocks hit us. We played truth or dare for another two hours then all the Moroi left and the novices went to go get changed.

“Remember you can’t hurt your own Moroi see you later we’ll steal ice cream”, Vick said giving me a half hug then left. I wanted him to be my Moroi he was the coolest guy I knew and I could stand him. He was going to Lehigh for college and that school was awesome. I’d never be lucky enough to have my best friend be my Moroi. I changed into a white blouse and black dress pants and went to the gym. I saw Serena, Cleo, Haley, Bridget and Julie sitting in the top row and they waved me over. I joined them and they started talking about Pavlo. I couldn’t believe I forgot him after our kiss last night between thinking about today, my brother and Vick I’d had no room for him in my head. He gave me a nod but I had to focus because the head guardian, Georgia Patrov was talking. She started assigning guardians to Moroi this training took six weeks which meant I had that long to prove I could do this job.
