Ace’s POV
I couldn’t believe the last few days talk about hero worship. Vick and I were getting so much attention guardians had an impossible time trying to get anyone to remember field experience. I kept a close eye on Vick waiting for him to shot me a glare or something but so far nothing. Galina had let it go too and we were actually acquaintances now. Girls asked me what a Strigoi bite felt like and whether I was going to become a blood whore. Vick did shot those people glares and shooed them off. Today was a big day because Julie and I along with the rest of the surviving guardians were getting battle marks. Pavlo had survived and he’d been asking if we could talk for days now but I never had time. I was walking into the room with Julie when we saw a crowd heading our way. “Hide”, I said pulling her into the nearest classroom and locked it. The crowd smashed into the door and we both started laughing like maniacs.
“Oh my god that was so funny”, Julie said laughing so hard she was crying.
“Hey the door’s locked”, one of them said and I started crying in my laughter too, “and they’re laughing at us”. We both fell on the floor laughing our asses off; this was the most fun I’d had lately. Vick wasn’t very cheerful lately and I felt bad. I’d lost my mother once and he’d lost his twice.
“Need an escape?” Pavlo said appearing by the teacher’s desk.
“I think we better before the mob gets us”, I said trying not to laugh anymore.
“Follow me”, he said gesturing to a hidden door. Julie and I snuck out the secret exit and it opened up into a closet full of alcohol.
“I knew Mr. Bekiv was too cheerful”, I laughed.
“That much alcohol is scandalous”, Julie said examining all the different kinds.
“He’s a spirit user”, Pavlo said opening another door.
“That explains a lot”, I said heading out that door and we snuck into the tattoo room. Everyone applauded and I saw that Jason and Vick were here. I didn’t know how but they were sitting with my dad. Those two had exclusive invitations everywhere it was unbelievable.
“Preston you first”, Guardian Ericsson said waving her forward.
“Good luck”, I said giving her a quick hug then stood at the side waiting for my turn.
“Are you available for talking now?” Markov whispered.
“Fine, what do you want to talk about?” I asked standing up straight like a proper young lady.
“Look I know I messed up big time when I kissed you like that but would you ever consider giving me a second chance”, he said quietly.
“I’m sorry but I’m kind of giving up on dating I’m going for the nun lifestyle”, I said apologetically.
“That’s fine I guess it makes sense”, he said then handed me something, “happy belated birthday”. I looked at my hand and there was a knife necklace and it had diamonds in it.
“Thanks”, I said pocketing it then going up to the tattoo artist. It was my turn to get a tattoo yippee. Note the sarcasm. I caught sight of Vick and he made a face and I smiled. I sat down in the chair and closed my eyes as he cleaned my neck off and then started to work. I thought about my celebration party afterwards and I barely noticed the sting from the needle. When he was done I opened my eyes and left letting the next person go. I looked over and saw that Vick was gone. I was a little disappointed but I tried to grin and bare it. I was just about to leave and go track him down when someone tapped me on the back. I turned around to see Vick himself standing with two ice cream cones.
