Vic’s POV

I saw Irena’s fangs nearing Grace’s neck and I felt a new strength. Grace had saved me hundreds of times I owed her this one. I focused in my energy and gathered my hands together then forced out a fireball directed to my mother. It hit her square in the chest and sent her flying away from Grace. I focused the energy back into me and sent a flaming circle out and burnt all the Strigoi holding us back. I ran forward and caught Grace before she collapsed. She looked up saw me then straightened up. Jason tossed her her stake and I sent a flaming pathway towards the door. Grace led the way down the pathway and Jason caused an earthquake pushing the Strigoi back. Grace had to stake a few more vampires and when we finally made it to the door my mother stood in the way. We all lent in I sent fire at her, Jason shook the ground under her and Grace actually staked her. We ran out the door into the sunlight. I felt Grace’s grip on my hand loosen and I tightened my grip on her and picked her up carrying her over to a nearby van. We stole the Strigoi’s blacked out van and Jason hotwired and drove with Jill in the passenger seat and Galina in the back with me and Grace. “Here”, she said leaning over Grace.

“Don’t you dare hurt her now”, I growled.

“I’m going to try and heal her I’ve given up on romance just let me help”, she snapped. I’d give anything to keep Grace so I had to let her try.

“Alright try”, I said getting out of the way. She touched Grace’s neck and I watched the big gash in her neck disappear and her grip on my hand increased. I sighed with relief and kissed her hand. Her eyes slowly opened and she took in where we were.

“Dear god, please tell me I didn’t get kidnapped”, she said sitting up.

“No you didn’t”, I laughed relieved that she could still be her after everything that had happened.

“Vick”, she said turning around and giving me a hug. I didn’t want to end the hug I’d been so scared for a second there and hugging her calmed her down. “Relax Vegas it’s not like I died”, she teased.

“Gracie if you ever scare me like that again I’ll stop doing puppy dog face”, I warned.

“Fine I’ll be safe”, she said pulling away, “Jason go to the nearest campground we aren’t getting anywhere today”. Jason did exactly what she said and it got cold so we pulled out blankets and gathered in the back as night fell. We locked all the doors and stayed quiet. Julie soon fell asleep in Jason’s lap right after Galina healed her. Galina sat across from us in her Snuggie she bought earlier.

“I’m sorry Ace I never should have started this fight I thought he wanted me but he just wants a powerful girl on his arm he wants you and that’s not your fault”, she apologized.

“Thanks you deserve way better you’ll meet a nice Moroi guy and you can have kids and gossip with the other wives”, Grace said smiling warmly.

“That’s the dream”, Galina sighed.

“Well I’m going to sleep goodnight”, she yawned then instantly past out head against my shoulder.

“I wasn’t right about you two”, Galina said looking at Grace, “you aren’t the types to have a fling”.

“Thanks I guess”, I said covering Grace’s bare shoulder with the blanket.

“Mom was right too though you can’t live without her”, she said unsure, “you two are kind of perfect for each other”.

“She’s my best friend”, I reminded her.

“So you’ve never wondered if you two could be more than just friends”, she questioned. I didn’t want to admit it but sometimes at night I imagined it’d be like to share a life with Grace. She was the only person in my life that I couldn’t live without. Two years without her had been a living hell; an entire lifetime without her would be horrible.
