Vick’s POV

I finished watching Anastasia with the others in silence. I was thinking about my mom and missing her. I knew she’d done what she did by her own choice but that didn’t make me hate her. I couldn’t even hate her for what she did to Grace. I hated to admit it but I was kind of mad at Grace for staking her there had to have been another opinion. She didn’t think she just did the first thing she could think of. Grace could be so compulsive she didn’t think things through if she had, she never would have left for two years to chase down her brother. She’d known I needed her and she wasn’t there when my mother turned Strigoi. She was always there for so long then suddenly when I needed her most she wasn’t there. I kind of hated her for that she’d valued her Strigoi brother over me. I mean I know she was upset about her mom but she was right before she never should have left. I didn’t want her to go anywhere anymore and if she tried to leave again I didn’t know how I’d handle it. “Hey you okay?” she asked concerned.

“Why won’t I be?” I snapped.

“Fine then”, she said rolling her eyes. I hated it when she did that it made me feel stupid and it made seem like she didn’t care. She was supposed to be my best friend she should care about my problems. I didn’t say anything though just ripped the blanket away from her and wrapped it around myself. “Baby”, she muttered.

“That’s what you get for killing my mom”, I said looking at the screen.

“VICK”, Julie and Jason said and I looked over to see that Grace was gone.

“Real mature”, Julie said standing up.

“Well she did kill my mother and she didn’t even apologize or anything she just acts like it never happened”, I said standing up.

“She’s sorry okay but your mom died a year ago”, Julie argued.

“And she wasn’t there that time she was off chasing her brother down she didn’t care about me enough to stick around then so why should I care about her feelings now”, I said angrily.

“You think she doesn’t care about you she almost died trying to protect you back at the mall you idiot”, she said pissed off.

“She’s just trying to better her reputation she doesn’t care about anyone but herself”, I snapped.

“You can be such an asshole she’s better off without you”, she said then stormed off.

“Man you really need to calm down Ace does care”, Jason said seriously.

“Ace cares about Ace and that’s it”, I said then stormed off. I was so mad right now she had no right to talk to me like I was a child. I went to my room and punched a hole in my wall. I was pacing around when I heard a knock on the door and I went to answer it. “What?” I snapped at the girl in the doorway.

“I’m your new guardian there was a switch”, she said with a smile, “I’m Brittany Madison I just transferred here yesterday”.

“Nice to meet you”, I said letting her in. I slept on the couch giving her the bed I didn’t feel like sharing tonight. I laid on the couch for awhile then got up and started pacing again.

“You okay?” Brittany said sitting up. I decided to be compulsive for once walking over and kissing her on the lips. It wasn’t fireworks or anything but I was pleased to see that she was kissing me back. I continued kissing her then kissed her down the neck and clothes started coming off. We were almost naked when I stopped and rolled off of her. It wasn’t fair to her I didn’t really care for her I didn’t even know her. I was so messed up.

Ace’s POV

“That’s what you get for killing my mother”, he said and it felt like a slap in the face. I ran over around the corner and heard the rest of the conversation. I felt like a total heartless bitch I never should have left him he had every right to hate me now. I saw Julie round the corner and see me.

“Ace he doesn’t mean it”, she said but I shook my head and ran for as long as I could. I felt the tears flooding down my cheeks and the anger boiling inside me. The depression, the fear and the anger were all battling inside me and I didn’t know what to do. I could go slap Victor, apologize and beg for forgiveness or let him win. He obviously didn’t want to hang around with his mother’s killer so I’d erase myself from his life. I went up to the headmistress’s office to ask if I could switch assignments. I knocked on the door and she told me to come in so I did.

“Oh Ace I’m glad to see you this is Brittany she’s a novice who just transferred here from St. Berlix Academy”, she smiled.

“Oh my god you’re Ace”, Brittany said shaking my hand.

“Hi welcome to St. Vlad’s”, I said putting on a fake smile, “headmistress is there any chance I can change assignments?”

“Yes in fact you can take Brittany’s half brother Michael”, she said gesturing to the boy standing by the door. I gave him a small smile and he returned it.

“It’d be an honor to be protected by the legend”, he nodded.

“The honor’s mine”, I replied.

“Good I trust that you’ll take Brittany to Victor’s room”, she said seriously.

“Yes ma’am”, I said then opened the door for the two of them. They both hurried out and I led the way to Victor’s room staying quiet.

“So what’s Victor like?” Brittany asked and I looked her over. She was wearing a black really mini skirt and a hot pink halter top. She didn’t look like a guardian in the making but I wasn’t going to judge a book by its cover. I looked Michael over he was handsome for a Moroi. He had a muscle build, sandy brown hair and deep brown eyes.

“He’s like Romeo”, I said rolling my eyes, “just make sure he stays happy because you may want to stake him when he’s a bad mood”.

“I take it you two are acquainted”, Michael said casually.

“Yep”, I said popping my lips.

“Is he as handsome as the rumors make him out to be”, Brittany asked hopefully, “I hear he’s a total honey”.

“Just remember honey can be a pain too it sticks to your fingers and takes forever to wash off”, I said stopping in front of Victor’s door, “don’t let him pace for too long”.

“Thanks bye”, she said then headed inside and I hurried off so he won’t see me.

“You’re sure in a hurry”, Michael said catching up with me.

“Sorry I’m just kind of fighting with Victor right now”, I said making sure he hadn’t followed us, “it’s a long story”. He nodded and I knew he wanted to know. What the hell I may as well tell him a long story since I won’t be sleeping tonight. I told him everything from the beginning as we walked around the school and outside in the snow. He listened making a little comment here and there and we finally stopped at my room.

“So he blames you for everything and you feel like shit because you feel like everything is your fault”, he questioned.

“That about sums it up”, I sighed.

“Screw him he’s wrong”, he said opening the door for me.

“He’s not though I did kill his mother and I wasn’t there when he needed me”, I said wiping my tears away. He shook his head and I looked up confused.

“Was he always there when you needed him was he there when your brother killed your mom and at the funeral he was off dating some girl I think you two need a break”, he suggested.

“What would you suggest?” I asked wiping my tears away.

“Well”, he said then kissed me unexpectedly.

“What was that?” I asked surprised.

“A distraction from life”, he said kissing me again. I kissed him back and I felt the sweet bliss his lips offered. I could rejoin the real world later.
