Frisk woke up to strange sounds coming from all around her, and the sound of Flowey whimpering next to her. She could feel his petals shaking, tickling her arm.
"Flowey?" she murmured. "What's going on?"
"Oh Frisk, did I wake you? Sorry, I was trying to be quiet. Lie back down, I'll protect you if I need to. It's those noises again. They came back, and I don't know what they want. If they're from Alphys's lab, they can't be good."
"No, Flowey, I need to get up," said Frisk. "We can't stay here forever. Let's try and get out of here." Slowly Frisk stood up, unsteady on her feet at first. It was too dark to see anything in the first place, so it was hard to tell if her eyes were working or not. She felt stinging on her cheek and leg, where she had been cut, and when she felt her leg, she could feel dried blood coating her calf. Her left eye was throbbing painfully.
As soon as Frisk stood up, the noises stopped. They heard faint shuffling fading away.
"What?" wondered Flowey.
"Never mind that Flowey," said Frisk. "We should go explore now. Now we know that this room goes on for awhile. There might be a place we can escape from this way."
"Are you serious Frisk?" asked Flowey. "That's the direction those things went. You actually want to go towards them? Not to mention the shape your in. I didn't get a good look, but in the light when Sans threw you in here, you looked horrible. All I could see was red. Red on your face, your leg. I'm surprised you can still walk. I'm surprised there hasn't been a reset."
Oh yeah, Frisk thought. I forgot I could even do that. How had she not died by now? When she thought about dying, a cold feeling settled in her stomach. Something told her that she didn't want to have to RESET again. Frisk didn't know if it had to do with all the things Alphys had injected her with, or if there were other reasons, but she felt sick every time she even thought about saving on her own accord.
Frisk did an examination of her physical state. She could move again, but her movements were slower and heavier. The liquid must not have completely worn off yet. She couldn't tell what shape her eye was in. It hurt when she did anything with it really, but she couldn't tell if she was able to see with it yet. she would have to wait until she got into the light again. Her leg and cheek hurt slightly, but she could ignore it. Her arm, the one that had been hurting for a while wasn't too bad either. It had been a couple of days, and the pain had gradually worn away. She wasn't doing too bad, considering the circumstances.
"I think I'm okay," Frisk reported. "Let's at least explore a little bit. Here, you can wind yourself around my arm if you want."
Flowey reached out a vine and secured himself around her her upper arm, and put his face right next to hers. She could tell he was trying to hide his fear, so she comfortingly pet his petals before stepping forward.
She put the arm that Flowey wasn't wrapped around forward, to stop herself if she ran into a wall. She shuffled her feet forward slowly, cautious in case there were any drops or things to trip over on the floor. The last thing she needed to do was fall. Her body was in rough shape, and if Frisk fell down, she didn't know if she would ever have the willpower to get back up.
The pair made their way slowly through the darkness for what felt like a long time. Frisk was surprised that they hadn't hit anything yet. Not even a wall. It surprised her that Alphys would put them in a room that was this big. Maybe she hadn't thought that they would be brave enough to venture into the darkness. Frisk knew that if she didn't have Flowey with her, she probably wouldn't have been able to explore at all.
Each person seemed to sense that the other was on edge, and so to pass the time and lighten the mood a little, Frisk and Flowey whispered to each other in the darkness. They didn't talk about anything important, just random things to distract them from the empty darkness around them.
Frisk and Flowey were playing a guessing game when Frisk heard a faint moan from the darkness. It was so faint Frisk wasn't sure if she had really heard something or if she was just imagining it.
"Did you hear that too Flowey?" asked Frisk nervously.
"M-maybe," he replied. "What did you hear?"
"It was kind of like a moan or growl. It was pretty quiet, coming from our right."
"Y-yeah, it was kind of like that," said Flowey, panic starting to seep into his voice.
In a hoarse whisper he said,"It's those things Frisk, those things people said are living in Alphys's true lab! They're here!"
"L..let's just keep going," said Frisk bravely. Nothing happened for a little while and the pair started to relax again. Maybe nothing was going to happen after all. Frisk was still surprised at how long they had been walking for. They hadn't even hit a wall.
Then, in the distance, Frisk saw a faint light. It was barely a light, more like a lighter shade of darkness. Compared to the rest of the surroundings however, it looked like a patch of light.
Frisk stuck her arm out and found a wall, finally. She felt it and it guided her around a corner. The light got bigger and slightly brighter, until Frisk and Flowey found themselves standing in a whole knew room. It was still dark, but it seemed incredulous that they could even see. When they looked back they way that they had come, they just saw what seemed to be an endless abyss of darkness.
Frisk realized that it was actually light enough to test her eye. Obviously it wasn't too bad if she hadn't even remembered. Sure enough, her eye was mostly blocked up, she could mostly just see vague shapes and colors, but it was better than she thought it would be. It should heal more too. That's what Alphys said didn't she? Frisk thought to herself. The wounds caused by those tools are painful, but they all eventually heal.
The room was pretty bare. It had a dirty tile floor. There were only a few pieces of furniture around the room. Frisk could see other dim hallways though. How big was this place? wondered Frisk.
Frisk took a step forward. She could feel a faint tickle on her shoulder, the only sign to how scared Flowey was. He was silent, but he was shaking. Frisk held her hand up to him. He wrapped a small vine around it, holding her hand for comfort.
A draft blew through the room from from somewhere, and Frisk shivered. She walked over to one of the walls. They were covered in dust and grime. Frisk saw a slight gleam catch her eye one the wall. She wiped her hand over it. It was a metal sign. Frisk dusted it off with her hand, coughing at all of the dust that was being churned into the air.
"True lab," said Flowey, reading the sign. "That's dumb, why would you label something like that?"
"Who knows, I mean this is Alphys we're talking about," said Frisk jokingly. She wiped the dust on her jeans. She was just about to say something else when the hairs on the back of her neck stood straight up. Frisk stiffened, tightening her grip on Flowey's vine hand thing.
She braced herself for the worst, and turned around.
