Riley stayed curled in the giant's palm until it suddenly tilted downward, suddenly causing her to be yanked out of her sleep and tumble onto a soft surface. She whimpered with fear, then hissed with pain as she tried to stand.
"Don't move your leg." The giant said, not looking at Riley while he was hunched over a supply kit. "Your ankle was twisted somehow, probably when Fenrir picked you up like that. It needs to heal straight. That is, unless you want to have a crooked foot."
Riley cocked her head at his tone. It was, worried. He was worried about Riley's twisted ankle. She held out her leg semi-straight so that she could grab her foot (because she has long legs) and gripped her foot and leg tightly. Not only was it twisted, when her foot got twisted, it also was dislocated.
Great, she thought, I know can't do crap with a dislocated ankle!
She froze when the giant came back over to her, and she shied away, not wanting to take any more pain. She was backed against a wall of flesh that came from out of nowhere, and was completely terrified at this point. She braced herself for more pain and to be snatched into the air, but instead, she felt a giant finger rub against her leg. Another finger gently pinch her foot, then heard the giant counting under his breath. Riley felt a sharp pain and let out a cry of pain, wincing, but the pain lasted for only a second. She looked at her foot, which was released from the two fingers, and saw it was back in place. The giant fixed it, rather than snatching her up by the foot to be dangled over a gaping maw like she originally thought he was going to do.
She looked up at the giant, ice-blue eyes staring at her small, chocolate brown eyes. She squeaked with fear as his hand motioned towards Riley, trying to backpedal away from him. She didn't understand her life. First she burned her hand slightly taking a tray of cookies out for her mother because they were about to burn, then she gets robbed of her freedom from her father, now this. The world is overrun by giants, boneticore, gryphons, wendigo, and other monsters and beasts of mythology. Heck, her grappling hook was a rope with an IceWing's talon tied to one end. She curled into a ball when she backed into a wall of warmth and flesh.
Go one, just kill me already! She thought, wishing she were already dead.
Instead, she felt a finger gently stroke her, calming her down. She opened one eye, and saw that the giant was being sympathetic towards her. Riley sat up, cocking her head slightly with confusion and fear. Suddenly, the "wall" behind her moved to pick her up. She let him, not wanting to be grabbed and risk injuring herself. The giant's hands gently cupped around her, and lifted her up to eye-level. Fierce, ice-blue eyes met Riley's deep-brown eyes.
"Hey, are you okay?" Riley jumped at the giant's voice, even if his tone was a calm, hushed tone, a whisper almost. "I know you think I just fixed you because I wanted a fair hunt, but that's not why I did it at all,"
"Th-th-then, why'd you fix m-me?" Riley stammered, trying to sound less terrified than she already was.
"I fixed you, because I hate seeing humans in pain." Riley cocked her head as he continued, "I feel as if the only difference between a human and a giant is the sheer size difference. To me, the consumption of a human is like consuming another giant."
Riley blinked in surprise. Are humans and giants distant relatives? I never thought that man-eating Giants were actually related to us humans...
"By the way, I don't thing I properly introduced myself. I'm Markus, Markus Pineclaw. And you are," the giant said, his tone slightly louder than before.
"R-Riley, Riley Horsehoof SwiftFoot." Riley said.
"Hmm, that's a unique surname..." Markus said, trailing off.
"I don't like to say my adopted surname, it makes me feel miserable thinking about the week before the age of predators as I call it." Riley said, looking at her feet.
"Huh, so, you must be hungry, I'm taking?" Markus asked, changing the subject.
Riley looked at her stomach with pity, then nodded.
"Well then," Markus began, motioning his hand with Riley towards his chest, "let's take care of that."
