Eden went through the next couple of days in a blur. She hadn't opened the shop in three days, spending her time talking to Kane, constantly bombarding him with questions whenever they arrived to her mind.
He answered any and all of her questions though he made it obvious that he was irritated with her after a while. He had also moved himself in. He had done it so quickly that she hadn't quite realized it until she noticed that he had been taking showers and the fact that he had yet to actually leave.
He had merely told her that there was no reason to leave especially since he was assigned to protect her and how could he keep an eye on her if he wasn't with her? He had made a valid enough point but still, with everything happening so quickly she wouldn't have objected anyway.
On the fourth day of her staring off into space he could take no more. He grabbed her by the arm, pulling her up off of the couch. "Come on sweet heart, I don't know about you but I'm seriously tired of sitting in this house. Besides all these spells are starting to get to me."
She looked up at him, "Huh? Spells?"
He sighed suddenly regretting opening his mouth. "This whole house is covered with enchantments, honey. Spells of protection and prosperity, longevity. Your grandparents were very thorough in keeping this place and you safe."
She stared at him and he smirked before placing his hand on the small on her back, urging her toward the door. "Where are your keys? You can't stay cooped up in here every day and I'm not leaving you alone."
She pointed to the table in the corner and he snapped his fingers, the keys reappeared in the palm of his hand. She stared and he laughed before pushing her through the door.
He stuck the keys into his pocket and wrapped an arm around her waist protectively. She gasped, placing her hand on his chest, she attempted to push him away. He didn't budge.
"What are you doing?" She snapped.
He kept his eyes on the road as he answered, "This is a small town, gossip travels fast, you know that. If I'm going to protect you twenty-four seven I need to be with you twenty-four seven. People won't believe I'm your cousin, I've been in town too long without you knowing who I was. So from now on I'm your man, sweet heart."
She sputtered in shock. "Are you out of your God damn mind?"
He glanced down at her, "I already told you, honey. I have a mission and you're it. I've never failed an assignment and I'm not about to start. So get used to me touching you, sweet heart."
"I don't think I'm gonna make it. This is too much. I'm going to die... I'm gonna close my eyes and keep them shut and maybe I'll die." She mumbled.
His arm tightened around her waist and she found herself hugged close to his side. "Calm down, sweet heart. You're starting to smell, honey."
She gasped, "Excuse me?"
"Don't get upset, you don't stink, Eden but you're starting to smell a little too good even to me and I've been trained to ignore newborn pheromones."
She stiffened up.
"Eden, relax. I'm not going to eat you. I'm here to protect you, just think of me as a guard dog, alright? A nice big Rottweiler trained to stay by your side, okay?"
She didn't have a chance to say anything as they were suddenly rounding the corner to the shop. He walked them right up to the door and waved his fingers in front of the locks. The door clicked open and she looked up at him with furrowed brows, "Don't do that! We're out in the open! What if someone sees you?"
He flipped the sign to OPEN as he pushed her inside.
He shrugged, "No one's going to see me, I've been using magic since I was a kid, I know how to be careful and even if someone did see me they'd think they were crazy or I'd erase their memory. No harm done."
"What? Erase their memory?! Don't do that either!" She snapped.
He raised his hands in defeat, a long sigh escaping his lips, "Alright, sweet heart, breathe. I won't use anymore magic out in the open. Calm down, what did I tell you earlier?"
She frowned at him before huffing. She ran a hand down her head, mussing her hair. She moved toward the cash register and grabbed her apron, tying it around her waist. He watched her from where he stood, his eyes unwavering, his gaze smoldering.
She flushed, a chill running down her spine. "Could you... not look at me like that?"
He raised a brow, "How am I a looking at you, Eden?"
"Just stop looking at me, damn it."
He smirked before his gaze flickered to the door. He stared outside for a moment before turning to look at her, "Where's my apron?"
She laughed at the silliness of the question. "Are you serious?"
He stared at her, "I'm going to be around you all the time I at least need to occupy myself. Working around your store won't kill me."
She bit her bottom lip before walking behind the counter and rummaging around in the bottom compartment. She pulled out the apron that had belonged to her grandfather. She stood up straight, running her fingers over the pale blue apron. She sighed as she held it out to him.
He took it and wrapped it around his waist with diligent fingers.
She frowned at him once he was finished putting it on. Even with the apron on he still gave off a silent masculinity that oozed sexiness.
"Is it because you use dark magic?" She asked before she could stop herself. He raised a brow at her question.
"Is what?" He asked.
"You know...," she mumbled, "all of that." She waved her hands around his frame from where she stood.
He laughed, throwing his head back with the force of it. Once he was done he walked toward her, leaning in her direction over the counter. "Do you think I'm sexy, Eden? You like what you see? You like how I smell?"
She gulped but found herself powerless underneath his gaze. He rounded the counter and stood right up against her, leaning toward her. "Dark magic is a mystery... it is the deepest desires of the flesh, the constant yearnings for pleasures beyond the eye. I am pleasing to your eyes because I personify that darkness, I exude it through my pores in order to lure you and others like you in, sweet heart, I am all that you dream of in your sexual fantasies."
She swallowed, her voice breathy, "So you're the devil?"
His eyes widened and he laughed again, leaning back to give her a little room, his hip against the counter, "Surprisingly you're not the first person to call me that, but alas the devil I am not."
She couldn't help but giggle a little. His smile disappeared completely and he leaned toward her again, this time entirely enclosing her behind the counter.
"Damn, you smell good, Eden. So, good. Like lavender and honey and..." He mumbled as his warm, minty breath fanned along her face. She was frozen, her eyes wide, staring up at him.
"Um... Kane?" She said anxiously as she noticed his brown eyes glaze over. "Kane? Kane!"
But it was too late, he was already yanking her against him, his arms tight around waist, locking her arms to her sides. She couldn't move an inch and she opened her mouth to scream his name again only to end up with his tongue in her mouth.
