Chapter six
Gloria shook her head out of my hand.
“I’m with Jimmy.” She said with a bitter tone. “I can’t just…no, am sorry.”
She started walking away from me. I grabbed her arm and turned her around. “I like you, okay? I don’t think you should be with him.” I looked at her with earnest; she looked back at me with an icy gaze.
“Stop acting like you know me. You really fucking don’t.” She walked into her room and slammed the door behind her. I went into the room opposite and felt like an utter fool.
I looked around the room I’d be staying in, it was painted a light blue, and it had a rather nice looking single bed and a nice wooden floor. I sat on the bed and put my head in my hands. I was hungry but the rejection I’d just encountered had made me want to curl up in a ball and sleep; and so that’s what I did.
I woke up feeling well rested and surprised I’d had a nightmare free night. There was a loud knock on my door, I didn’t really want to move, I was still kind of tired.
“Come in!” I said while sitting up.
Gloria came in and closed the door behind her. She was wearing an oversized black polo shirt and a pair of red boxers. She had a plate in her hand, I couldn’t see what was on it, but it smelt delicious. As I looked at her, I noticed small purple scars above her knees. Her voice stopped me from staring at the small angry lines. I blushed, embarrassed at being caught.
“Eyes up. I made you some breakfast.” She put a hand through her hair, which was curlier than usual.
“You have a lot of make up on.” I said with a surprised tone. It was true. Since we’d met she’d either just been wearing mascara and blusher or just wearing eye make-up. Today however, she had on heavy eyeliner, a lot of blusher and a bit of foundation. She was still as pretty as ever but she definitely had a lot of make up on.
“So sue me.” She snapped. Gloria put the plate of food on my lap and left.
After I ate my eggs, bacon and sausage breakfast I got out of my room and downstairs. Gloria and Jimmy were already down there. The bottom floor was all open space and all painted a very nice dark red.
“Babe, it’s all good though!”
Gloria laughed loudly. “Jimmy, come here.”
I avoided looking over at Jimmy and Gloria who were sat in the living room. I decided to make myself some coffee. After a few moments I’d found everything I needed. I waited for the coffee maker to kick in. I heard someone run up the stairs.
“So are ya coming to see the show?” Jimmy’s voice was naturally loud; and really fucking annoying, or maybe I just found it annoying.
“What do you mean?” I asked as I made my coffee up.
“I got those bastards outside; who tried to shot you and the grouch up, ‘am gunna teach ‘em one hell of a lesson.” I turned to Jimmy then coffee in hand.
“Is that what you call…her?” I asked realising I had no idea what her name actually was.
“She is always so down and snappy, she has other nicknames but that’s what I call her. She is mine.” He looked at me with such hate I thought I might crumble, but I didn’t, I stood my ground.
