So now we’re back on the plane, to Las Vegas. I’ve never been there before but I’ve heard its full of hotels and casinos. It’s a nice place for a meal. It’s going to be quite a short trip, because Canada is only the country next to America. I extend my body across two seats, and curl up into a ball.
“Now where can I sit?” He asks and grins.
“Just curl up behind me.” He does as I say and stretches his arm out for my head to rest on. His other arm holds around my waist. We just lay there in a comfortable silence. The plane starts going down into Las Vegas. Once we step out, there is a scorching hot heat vibrating from the sun.
“Ugh.” I moan. Skylar passes an umbrella each to Ivy and Jace so they can hide from the sun. We hire a few taxis so we can go to the hotel we’re staying at, The Venetian.
***
I would describe The Venetian as prestigious. It looks like princes and princesses would’ve lived here thousands of years ago. I can hear water rushing around as if there's a waterfall right beside it. Limousines are lined up in front of it and so are taxis. Rich men and women walk past us with tuxedos, mini dresses and high heels, also with their heads arrogantly held high. Tourists walk in, amazed with the beauty of this hotel. My eyes are widened too. The ceiling is painted with angels and the pillars are golden with patterns carved on them. It's like breathing in fresh air.
We find a long desk, with many concierges behind it. I figure that's where we make our reservations. But in this case, nothing is needed besides me.
“I’ll handle this.” I walk up, using my strength to avoid limping, to a handsome male, around his late twenties, and lean over the desk. Money is never a problem when I'm around.
“Excuse me. Can I get seven rooms?” I say sweetly. He looks at me, breathless, this is so easy. I blink my eyes innocently a few times.
“Uh-I-uh yes!” He exclaims and hands me seven cards. I pass one to everyone. Okay, I didn’t want to be a scam so I got fewer rooms than we needed, but sharing is caring, right?
“We hunt tonight,” Ivy says eagerly and walks to the elevator.
“That’s a good idea. I’m starving,” Jace agrees.
“Noah and I need to hunt too.” I hold my stomach in hunger. My ankle had slowly healed on its own. I limp my way to the elevator.
“Are you sure it doesn’t hurt?” He looks deeply into my hazel eyes. I stare into his bewitching eyes. The pain rushes up to my thigh and dissolves there. It continues to do that every time my heart races.
“Nope,” I lie flatly. My heart begins thumping even faster.
“I know you’re lying.” He smirks and lifts me up. “You need to heal before you hunt. Otherwise, its useless.”
“True,” I admit. We wait patiently in the elevator and some humans join us.
“Um…is she alright? Does she need to go to the hospital?” The woman says while biting her fingernails.
“I’m fine, ma’am.” I reply politely. “Could you please press the twenty-second level?” She smiles and presses the button.
Adam taps his foot awkwardly on the ground and the elevator beeps then opens. I smile nicely to the nameless lady and we search for our room. I push the card into its slot and he sets me down on the bed. Someone knocks on our door, it’s Skylar.
“Here’s some change of clothes, everyone else in the room along this corridor.” She closes the door. I look around the dimly lit room as I heal my ankle and ribs. It has a quite sophisticated structure with intricate designs on the walls. The room has lavender scent and an elegant chandelier in the middle of the room. Frankly, I’m homesick; I miss my cosy apartment back in London. The one thing I didn’t miss is my old life, full of heartbreak and regret. Adam had saved me for that and I’m now forever in his debt. I look around for him and I spot him sitting on a chair by the window, staring at the sunset. My eyes set on the neatly folded clothes at the edge of the bed. I slide off the bed and bring the clothes into the bathroom. Skylar has left me with a strapless, white dress and dark blue cardigan. I change into the clothes and leave the bathroom.
“Adam, you should change too. It’s nearly dusk.” Dusk, my favourite time of the day. He obeys and walks to the bathroom behind me. I jump on the bed and smother myself in the pillows. It’s the first time I felt luxury since Verona.
“Hello, anyone in there? Time to go.” I hear Willow’s voice from outside the door.
“We’re coming!” I yell back. I slam the bathroom door open and interrupt Adam changing. His shirt is still in the process of being changed. I gasp and he slides on the rest of his shirt.
“You’re so funny.” He laughs. He holds his arm around my waist and we walk out.
Las Vegas is just as I expected from before. Loud, crowded and shining with neon lights from casinos. My eyes are literally blinded. Cards with pictures of strippers are scattered all over the ground. Drunken men and women laugh loudly, harassing random strangers.
“I got these from Skylar. Make it look like there was a mass murder.” Ivy hands us each a weapon. “You have one hour.”
“Be careful.” Adam hugs me and runs off in the opposite direction. We all go off to different places. I have a plan all worked out, I go into a casino, lure a man out and suck his blood shamelessly. I find a casino that catches my eye and head inside. There are possibly a hundred people here, give or take a few. Almost every male turns his head to me and I look for one that has a wasted life. I wink at one man, who is tanned and buff then just walk out the door. I pace swiftly down the path of busy people and into a dark, empty place.
“Wait!” I hear, probably the man I saw at the casino. I wait for him to get closer so I can grab hold of him. I did just that. The blood I’ve been craving is now going down my throat, it tasted fresh and warm.
“Sorry,” I whisper and stab him a few time in the heart. It's alright if the police find the fingerprints. After all, I am the queen of persuasion. I wait for my red in my eyes to fade away with the taste of blood on my tongue. I run back to the hotel with my vampiric speed. I could see Jace slowing down next to me.
“Race you there!” He zooms even faster than me. I run after him until he’s in my sights. We don’t bother using the elevators so we use the stairs. There’s a long corridor before our rooms. I glare at Jace and go even faster. He’s still ahead of me though so I jump and backflip off his shoulders to land directly in front of him.
“You fight dirty.” He pats my shoulder.
“I know,” I say a bit arrogantly.
“How was your meal?” Yuki comes out of her room.
“Satisfying.” She smiles and closes the door again.
I close my door and arms curl around my waist. His lips are against the side of my forehead. I run both my hands against his and our eyes meet, ever so enchantingly. His vivid blue eyes melt into mine, as smooth as silk. My heart races faster than a cheetah chasing after its prey –that is, if I have a heart.
