AND THE FUCKING CIVIL WAR PREMIERE AFEIOGNWN
~~~
Since the war had begun, and we had been dragged into it by countries in Europe, spotting both men and women in uniform was not as rare as it once was. There were sergeants, captains, nurses and lieutenants wandering the streets of New York City. What did not help was the fact that my friend and long time crush, James Buchanan Barnes, was one of them.
"Sergeant Barnes," I joke as we walk down the street together. "It has a nice ring to it."
"It does, doesn't it?" Bucky replies with a smile.
"Maybe one day you'll be known as 'Captain Barnes'."
Bucky laughs, his hands shoved in his pockets. We wander down the street aimlessly, waving at people that we knew. I roll my eyes every so often when I spot a few girls giggling to themselves as they swooned over the man in uniform beside me. Some of them even walked up to him, blatantly ignoring me, and shamefully flirted with them. He'd always return the smile and a few of his charming one-liners that could make anyone want to jump into bed with him before bidding a goodbye and walking beside me again.
"I'm sorry." Bucky apologised for the seventh time.
"It's fine, Bucky, really," I repeat for the seventh time. "You're a pretty handsome guy, I'd be surprised if no one flirted with you."
There it was again, that charming smile. I turn away from him before he has the chance to spot the blush that's beginning to rest on my cheeks. I can't help but smile a little, but that smile fades when I spot a familiar face in the alleyway.
"Oh not again." I sigh.
"Wha- Oh,"
Attempting to fight off a guy much larger than him was another friend of mine: Steve Rogers. He was tremendously smaller than the man that was repeatedly hitting his gut and face. His pale cheek was already beginning to bruise.
"'Scuse me." Bucky sets his hand on my lower back and shuffles past me.
I stand at the edge of alleyway, hesitantly shuffling my feet before giving in and running down the alley. I step past Bucky and the man to get to Steve, who's leaning against one of the trashcans in the corner.
"Steve," I set my hands on his shoulders. "Are you okay?"
"I had him on the ropes." Steve mutters, catching his breath.
The smile that I had on my face was fading when I heard, "Come on, doll-face, why don't you come with me? I'll show you a real man."
I turn around, my fists clenched.
"How dare yo-"
"(Y/N)," Bucky warns. "I've already had to save one of your asses today. And I would hate to see that pretty little face of yours all bloody and bruised. As for you,"
Bucky fist smashes against the mans face. He topples to the ground, clutching his jaw.
"If you talk to her like that again I'll make sure that you get more than my fist connecting to your face."
The man scurries off, leaving the three of us alone in the alley. Steve rubs his jaw, cracks a few jokes and suggests that we head off to the diner that we always eat at whenever Bucky is in town.
"As long as you promise not to pick a fight with some other guy in the diner because he said some rude." I plead.
"Fine, fine." Steve grumbles walking ahead of Bucky and I.
I smile. I turn my attention towards Bucky. He's staring down at his hand, clenching and unclenching it. There isn't any blood on his hand but it appears to be a little red.
"Is your hand okay?" I ask.
He nods his head, continuing the same procedure with his hand.
"It's fine, just a little sore."
"Come here," I force him to stop walking. I take his hand in mine and kiss the top of his knuckles. "Kiss and make it better."
I giggle to myself. I look up to find him smiling down at me while I run my thumb across his pale red knuckles.
"You know," Bucky smirks. "That's not the only place that hurts."
"Oh, really?" I quirk an eyebrown. "Where else hurts, Sergeant Barnes?"
"Well," He uses his other hand to touch his lips. "These hurt too. Pretty badly actually, and I think the deserve the same treatment."
I smile and reach up, my lips hitting his. I release his hand to wrap my arms around his neck. Bucky hands land on my waist, pulling me closer to him. I can feel him smiling against my lips. I pull away to find him beaming down at me.
"Better?"
"So much better."
I reach up and steal his hat, setting it atop my own head.
"Come on, let's get to the diner before Steve manages to get himself into more trouble."~~~
