I stood in the field again.
The dreamscape was empty. I didn't know what I expected to find. I knew that the likelihood of her being here was low. I had tried to find her energy signal but hadn't had any luck so far. I knew that the message must have been projected through here, but I didn't know how to access it again.
I paced back and forth. I was growing frantic.
I hadn't the slightest idea where to start looking. I had never been taught how to use the dreamscape. But there had to be a clue somewhere. I closed my eyes, reaching out with my mind to the energy that controlled the realm I was standing in. Where had she been last? Where did the message get sent from? I was hoping that she had at least made it to Earth. There would be no hope at all otherwise.
Then I felt it. The smallest pulsing of energy. I opened my eyes and an image had appeared in front of me, projected against the backdrop of the sky. It was in bird's eye view, looking down at a house. The house sat surrounded by forest. I couldn't see Cyra anywhere, but there had to be a reason I was being shown this. I had to get a closer look. The image zoomed in before I had to ask it to. Whatever technology this was, it was amazing. No screens, no buttons. Only images that seemed to be controlled by our minds. It was exactly like the projection that I had seen in the motel room. It was almost as if I was there, flying above the scene myself.
The projection became bigger, engulfing me in the scene. The house was right in front of me now, and the image levelled out as if I was standing on the ground beside it, rather than above it like I was before. It moved backwards and into the forest. The house became shielded from view behind the trees.
The image moved to a different angle, as if coming off a device that was placed on the ground.
Where was Cyra? I still hadn't seen her.
There was movement in the bushes to the left and two men went running past. It looked like they were shouting but the sound didn't come through. I recognised one of them as one of the Elvirans that had attacked me. The video kept playing. I almost gave up watching when one of the men came back. He was carrying a female body in his arms. Cyra? The second man came into view a few seconds later. The first man turned to speak to the second and I could see the woman in his arms better. She was dressed in human clothes- a t-shirt, jeans and canvas shoes. She was thin. Dried blood was on her arms and legs; rips were in her clothes. Her head rolled away from where it had been tucked against his chest and I could see her face. Cyra.
It was confirmed. They had her. I knew she wasn't dead, but she didn't look well. They walked past, and I assumed they would have gone into the house that was behind me.
Where was this? There was a possibility that she was still there. The image moved up and I could see that the video had been coming from a small black device under me. It must have been what Cyra was holding to contact me through earlier.
The image kept moving up, going back into the bird's eye view from earlier. It went up even further, as if from a satellite. I could barely make out the house amongst the trees, but it was there. Next to the patch of forest that the house sat on was a lake. I recognised the area. I would recognise it anywhere. I had spent hours looking at maps of the area, trying to work out where I came from all those years ago. It was in this area, beside that lake, that I had been found seven years ago. It couldn't be a coincidence, could it? That these Elvirans had some sort of base there? And that Cyra had been taken there now?
I had seen enough. I pulled out of the video, and out of the dreamscape, moving back into the field and then into the motel room. I sat up from where I had been lying on the motel room bed.
I knew where I was going. I would get Cyra back.
