Its the day of the Ball now and I'm currently sitting on my bed watching as all the girls in my dorm are rushing around trying to get their hair in the perfect position. Even Clover, who is usually relaxed, is trying to get her up-do to stay up. After a while I check my watch and I notice that the time is five thirty. I should probably start getting ready pretty soon, but then I decided that it was too funny to watch these girls run around like a Hippogriff with it's head cut off.
At around six, most of the girls had already left. Clover and another girl named Josiphine were still trying to fix something. I sighed and stood up.
"Well, time to put my face on..." I sat at the edge of my bed and asked pulled out the powders that I needed. I usually didn't wear much make up, but this time I decided to put on some wine red lipstick, purple eye liner, and a smokey eye.
I grew out my hair when I found out about the Ball, so I put that in a side poneytail and I tied it with a black ribbon. I pulled out my wand and I put Baby's Breath flowers in it and I curled it.
I checked the time, and it's just six thirty. The sun was already down and I saw that the Durmstrung boys had started to approach the castle.
"I still have some time." I say aloud. Clover and Josiphine had already left after I had finished with my eyes, so I was able to get dressed in peace. I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes for a few seconds, then I stood up and pulled out my dress. I hadn't seen it since I bought it all those weeks ago and I had never tried it on. Well, lets hope I got the right size!
I pulled it on and realized that it actually fit quite nicely. The sweetheart neckline looked nice on me, and the sash complimented my waist. I slipped on my silver heels, put on silver earrings that were just a simple chain with small purple stones on the end, and a silver necklace that was also embedded with purple stones. I looked in the morror at myself and just nodded.
"Okay." I said to myself. I checked the time, it's only six fourty five. "I wonder if Joel is even ready yet..." I approached the door that led to the stairs, then I realized that I had forgotten something. "Perfume."
I turned back and spedily walked back to my trunk and pulled out my favorite scent. I sprayed it on and the smell of flowers mixed with a hint of some sort of berry obsorbed me. I sniffed and nodded in approval.
"Alright! Now I think I'm ready!" I approached the door and hesitated. "Okay. Open the door."
I won't budge. "It's just a door, come on, Joel is waiting for me."
Crap, Joel. I'm going with one of my best friends. Nothing wrong with that I lov- liked Joel! I just like him! As a friend! Right? Yeah! Right! Yeah come on, he has no interest in you, you have no interest in him, in that way, and you know it! It's not like you're worth his time anyway, he needs someone who's doesn't think as frantically as you do!
"Alright, door, you have thwarted me long enough!" I say as I opened it. I carefully walked down the stairs because these heels are difficult to do anything in. "Ugh, who's idea was heels anyway?"
Once I made it to the end of the stairs, I saw that there was only one person in the common room- Joel was standing at the end of the stair case in black and white dress robes. His usually messy black hair was brushed and it looked well maintained. When he heard me approach, he turned around. His blue eyes twinkled as he smiled at me.
"Hey, Joel." I say a little awkwardly when I make it all the way down the stairs. "You look really uh, nice!"
"You look amazing, Rem..." he says as he steps back and beholds my attire.
"Oh, uhh thanks." I smile a bit.
Joel pulls out a pocket watch and says, "Okay, I think it's about time to go." He puts his watch away and offers me his arm.
"Wait," I say after we take our first step in the Common Room. "Can we- no, nevermind.... Well... You'll think this is rediculus...."
"What's wrong?" he says looking in my eyes. "I promise I won't laugh at whatever it is you have to say." He says rolling his eyes and putting up his right hand.
"Can we practice dancing? Just in here? I haven't exactly tried dancing in these shoes yet, and, well, you know me, I'm-"
"A clutz and you don't want to break anything when we dance for real." he finished my sentence for me. I could feel my cheeks become red when I nodded. "You'll be fine, just let me lead and if you do make a fool of yourself, I'll also make a fool of myself. Either way, you're my fool, okay?"
I sighed, "Okay, fine." I took his arm again and we walked over to the Great Hall together.
We still had time to stand around and chat with some people. I noticed that Harry and Ron were coming down the stairs so Joel and I decided to say hi to them.
"Hullo Harry!" I greet him when I see him, "Aren't you going to help save rRon from being devoured by that rug?"
"Ha Ha ha! Very funny Rem...." Ron mumbles. He looks extremely grumpy.
"I'm only joking. You look quite charming.... Yeah." I say.
"You can just say it, out right. I know. Its ghastly. It's horrific. It's just bloody awful." he says.
"Yeah... Sorry Ron." Harry says in a sympathising way. "Well, Rem, you look very nice."
"Thanks!" I say, "So, did you two find dates? Or are you taking each other?"
"No! I'm taking Parvati Patil!" Harry says defencively.
"I'm only joking," I say with a light smirk. "Well, we best be off. good luck dancing."
"You too, I've heard you always trip." Ron says.
"Yeah, that sound's about right...." I mutter under my breath. Joel nudges me and I look up. Joy and Demitri are walking in the Hall. She looks radiant in the Lavender dress that she found at the shop last week. "Bye, guys."
After Harry and Ron leave, Joel asks me, "Do you want to see her?"
"Well.... I don't know..." I confess.
"I thought you two made up, or something. Wait. Were you two even fighting?" He asks really confused.
"Well yeah, sort of. Then I got over it and then something else happened and I got upset with her, then we sort of made up-"
"Sort of?" he asks, "You know what? Nevermind. Girls are confusing. I'm just going to leave it at that."
I just nod, "Yeah, sorry about that."
Just as we finished talking, Joy and Demitri headed our way.
"Oh great...." I say as a plaster on a smile.
