Calum's POV
My back is pressed against the wall as I listen to Luke and Michael's conversation about this party they went to the other night. Michael is going on about how he did not really enjoy it because he was waiting for Brea to maybe show up. Luke is in a giddy mood because he got laid, nothing out of the ordinary because he usually bangs a new girl every other day.
Suddenly my eyes catch Josie walking onto campus, her eyes fixated on her phone not paying attention to her surroundings. I know she notices me staring at her but when she looks up and meets with my eyes she casually ignores me and walks right on past continuing down the hall. I let out a huffed sigh and look back to the boys and see them laughing, Luke punches my shoulder jokingly before the bell rings and we walk in the direction of our first class.
I follow the boys into the classroom and ask a couple people for a pencil since I am unprepared as usual.
I sit back in my chair and take a paper out as my psych teacher begins his lecture. It does not take long for my mind to take off wondering what Josie is going to say, that is if she even decides to talk to me today. I kind of know what she expects of me but she is so far out of touch with reality.
I jot down the notes on the board and wait for the period to be over. As soon as the bell rings I am out of my seat.
I walk over to my locker just trying to waste time before Michael comes up and asks if I had seen Brea with Josie, I shake my head no and we walk over to Ashton and Luke.
"I am really thinking about blowing off practice today..." Luke says, "I would but coach would be pissed because our first game is Friday night." I state and he looks like he is contemplating. The bell rings signaling to get to class but the boys and I are in no rush so we walk slowly to the other side of campus.
Michael opens the classroom door and I am the last to enter.
"Go ahead and take your time walking in Hood, you're already late." Mr. Riles says with sarcasm and I smirk before walking further into the room.
I pass by Josie to take my seat and bite my bottom lip as she meets my gaze.
I sit back crossing my arms as the class gets started on the writing warmup. I stare intensely in front of me focusing on Josie.
"Josie..." I whisper hoping that she will turn around. No luck. I tap her shoulder and she shrugs it off as Michael calls her name.
"Hey where's Brea?" Michael asks Josie leaning onto his desk so he can hear better.
"Um, she is kinda going through a rough time right now. Her grandpa passed this weekend." She says looking down to her fingers before looking back up again.
"Do you think she would see me if I stopped by? Do you mind giving me her addy?" He asks and she nods her head before writing it down on a scrap piece of paper.
"She may seem a little distance but that's how she copes with things. Just try to seem as understanding as you can." Josie adds as she hands him the paper, he nods and takes the paper putting it in his pocket.
After she returns her focus back to her work, I tap her shoulder once again which leads to nothing. I decide to leave it be until after class.
I try my best to concentrate on the warmup, we have to write at least one paragraph on future achievements which does not really interest me. I decide to write about how I want to eventually go into the pro football league and take things from there.
After Mr. Riles assigns our weekly assignment the dismissal bell rings and people file out of the classroom, I grab Josie's wrist as I catch up with her.
"Hey can we talk." I ask and she nods her head as I lead her out of the hallway. We stop and sit on a bench and I could care less about missing the next class.
"So have you thought about what you want?" I ask and she looks off to her side not looking me in the eyes.
"I am going to be completely honest with what I want okay? I really do not expect you to understand." She starts off and I nod my head staring at her intensely.
"What I want is for you to be the one who sees me differently then other people do. I want your face to light up whenever you hear my name. I want us to be able to have a relationship where when we're sober we say the things we would if we were drunk. I want to get to a stage where we can mess with each other to the point we drive each other crazy. I want someone to be there when I am at one of my weakest moments. I want someone who is the reason that I decided to give love a chance. I want someone to be afraid of losing me..." The last part she whispers almost to the point in which I cannot hear her words. I am speechless for a few minutes and try to gather up the right words to reply with.
"What happens if I cannot be that person?" I ask, "Then I do not think that I want to take whatever this is any further, I do not want to be left broken." She explains before standing up, I look down for a few moments. Just as she begins to walk off I lace her hand in mine and she turns around.
"I am going to try my hardest to be the guy you need me to be, I'm not saying I am going to not fuck up a lot but I will try." I say and soon my eyes move back and forth between her crystal blue eyes and lips before I lean in closer.
Our lips meet and for the first time, our kiss is not made out of lust and alcohol.
WOW this was cringe worthy, so cheesy sorry lol
