(Claire's POV)
I sighed as I slipped on my white robes overlord Haze had ordered all of his slaves to wear. The robes made my red hair fall flat against my chest and was a little tight. I brushed my hair and pulled it into a ponytail before exiting my room. Two other slaves were exiting their rooms when I did, a boy and a girl. The girl had curly blonde hair and icy blue eyes, while the boy had brown hair and green eyes. We all began to walk to the grand hall, where Haze had told us to meet him. No one said anything as we made our way into the hall. Like the name implied, the grand hall was grand, with a ceiling that could fit two houses, a length that could fit one with lots of space left over, marble floors, and walls that were embedded with rubys and gems of all sorts. In the back of the room, there was a thrown made of solid gold and upon it, was overlord Haze. Haze was medium sized, on both hight and weight, had the normal red eyes of vampires, and long blue hair that went to his chest. Today he was wearing his normal high ranking vampire uniform, which was a white tux with a few medals on the right, a white top hat, and black dress shoes. He smiled as the three of us came in and bowed before him.
"There you are my lovelys," he said in his smug voice.
"Do any of you know why I had you dress this way today?" I stayed silent, while the boy spoke up.
"M'lord, you had us dress this way because today, Lord Bishop is visiting. You wanted us to dress nicely so he wouldn't think lowly of you." I had almost forgot. Today one of the 5 overlords, Lord Bishop, was visiting Lord Haze. He wanted to 'catch up with his old friend'. I guessed it was to see how badly Haze was doing. Out of the 5 overlords, Haze was the poorest. Ranking down from top to bottom, Lord Garth of the south was the richest, then Lord Bishop of the west, Lord Ivan of the east, Lady Jade of the center, then Lord Haze of the north.
"Thats right Jacob! Very good. I wanted to impress him. Now then, Ruby." He turned his attention to the other girl.
"Yes, M'lord?" She looked slightly nervous.
"You're going to be in charge of food and refreshments." She nodded.
"Jacob, you'll be readying the performance. Make sure everyone is ready." The boy nodded his head, slightly relaxing. Then Haze turned to me.
"Claire. You shall be helping me keep Lord Bishop company." I bowed my head, wanting to rip his head off. He always put me with him, helping entertain guests with him and such.
"You're all dismissed." We bowed again and exited the grand hall. Ruby and Jacob stopped outside the doors after they shut.
"Oh my gosh. I feel so lucky that we didn't get anything too hard. I'm so sorry Claire. He always puts you with the hard jobs," said Ruby in a sympathetic voice.
"Yea, Ruby's right. Why does he do that?" Questioned Jacob. I shrugged.
"If I knew I'd tell ya. But I have no idea. Well you guys get to work, see ya after he leaves." They both nodded and took off. I was left alone to wait for Hazes instructions. I walked past a janitor's closet on the way back to my room, and heard a 'pssst'. Confused, I stopped and looked around. I saw no one, so I shrugged and kept walking. Then I felt two cold hands wrap around my mouth and pull me into the closet, shutting the door behind us.
"Don't yell or you'll get us both caught," whispered a male voice. I nodded, not able to speak with his hands over my mouth.
"I'm going to let go now. Don't scream or yell ok?" I nodded again and he let go.
"Ok, I've gotta make this quick. My name is Arthur. I'm a free human. No need to introduce yourself, I know who you are. I work with a human group called Jackers. We'are working to kill all the vampires, but at the moment, we can't kill them. Recently, we did find a way. People called Vampire slayers are the only ones who can kill them, because the weapons used to kill them can only be weilded by them. So I need you to come with me. Please, you're our only hope. Humanitys only hope." I stared at the dark shape of the man, hoping this wasn't a dream. I wanted nothing more than to kill all the vampires and their monsters. Especially since they killed my family.
"But, why me? I'm not anything special. I can't fight, I don't know how to use any weapons, and I'm not a slayer. So why me?" The man chuckled quietly.
"You are a slayer Claire. Have you found the mark that looks like a dragon yet?" I was shocked at his words. I did have a dragon mark on my shoulder and I never showed it to anyone.
"How do you know that?" I asked.
"I can sense it on you. Let me tell you something Claire. I'm a slayer too. My mark is on my back. Now Claire, listen to me. I can get you out of here and train you to kill vampires. I just need you to listen. Tonight, Lord Bishop will be arriving, correct?" I nodded.
"Good. You'll be with Haze I assume? Anyway, I'll be behind Bishop and when I yell, NOW, use all your strength and jump up. Then run to me and we'll escape. Got it?" I took all of his words in.
"Yea, I gotta go get ready though. Ill see you tonight then." He nodded and I walked out of the closet. He stayed in there and waited for the time to move.
