18: Running Back

Nathan's POV

This morning was a calm morning. There were no grandmas, no scares, not a thing to disrupt the rise of the rays of light coming from the sun. Scarlet was breathing softly in my arms, her breaths matching mine. I felt warm, fuzzy even. If you haven't felt this feeling, you don't know what love is.

I've been thinking about Scarlet and me. It is really hard to believe what a month can do. I even thought about our subtitle if our story was written. Hate at first sight. Fits, doesn't it?

Who would've thought that a boy who has had a bad history with wolves and had a phobia of grey eyes would become a wolf and be mates with a grey-eyed girl? A little ironic if you ask me...

"Nathan, stop thinking so much," Scarlet whined softly into my shirt.

My eyes widened. "How did you keep your thoughts so quiet?"

She opens one of her eyes. "I was in a pack, ya know. Everybody knows everything. I'm used to this."

I smiled and bury my nose into her hair. Her cheek was burning my skin, and I shivered at the touch. Slowly, I move my head to look at the "hickey" I had given her. "Is it sore?" I asked, rubbing my thumb around it.

Scarlet shrugged, and winced as she did so. "A 'lil bit," she answers after.

I kissed her cheek. "Just like you should be," I mumbled cheekily.

"Sweetie, I love you, but if you keep making perverted jokes like that you won't live much longer in my sight," she said, running her fingers under my shirt. "What time is it?" Scarlet asks sleepily.

I turned around to look at the little wooden owl clock on the nightstand next to me, squinting my eyes to get used to the morning light. "Um... I think it's eight o'clock right now."

After about five seconds of silence, Scarlet and I both say, "Way too early." Our eyes widened as we looked at each other, amusement both in our eyes. "Um..." we say in sync again. "Stop it," we say, and with that came our synchronized sighs. "I'm not even thinking this," we say, and we just stopped talking because this was getting to a very different level of creepy.

Soon, after a good amount of silence had passed, I asked her, "What do you want to do today?"

She shrugged in my arms, and I knew she had winced again. I wanted so much to smile at that, but I kept my cool. "I don't really know. Do you wanna do anything in particular?" she asks. A few thoughts came to my mind immediately, and those thoughts earned a slap on the arm from Scarlet. "Do you wanna take a run? To get used to changing?" she suggested in an annoyed tone.

"M'kay," I replied. "I wouldn't mind that."

"Just let me sleep some more. I feel really tired," she mumbled, and within just a minute she was sleeping in my arms again.

Not for long though, because I got up and began walking around, searching for pen and paper. I succeeded my quest, and went into the living room to think. I'm going to need to keep tracks of the dates and stuff between Scarlet and me. I don't care how girly I sound.

To be honest, I've never really had a girlfriend. Why would I if they can break my heart? So, since Scarlet and I are together, I don't want anything to break us apart. Mate or not, she was still important to me, and every girl needs to feel special.

Hell, I'm a guy and I feel extra-special.

Somehow, after minutes of thinking about anniversaries, a few questions exploded in my head, as usual.
