I awoke to a rumbling sound and distant voices."Ye, and it aint even like I forced her. You know what I mean?" The second voice was muffled. I tried to stretch, but something was stopping my arms from extending. A sharp pain ripped through my knuckles. Something wet oozed its way down my arms.
"SHIT," I groaned. Something sharp tore my skin.
The voices stopped. I pushed the things that lay over me..
"Double shit."
I was still in the dumpster. I must have fell asleep waiting for Jeff to leave the alley. After he lifted the lid, he poked the bags for a few seconds and slammed the lid back down.
The lid was lifted. Two grown men stared down at me.
"What the fu-" One of them began only to get a jab on his shoulder.
"Do you need a hand?" The other man asked. Before I can reply, he grabbed my arms and effortlessly helped me out of the bin. The two men looked almost identical. Short, beer belly, and greying hair. They were probably in their mid-forties.
"What the hell are you doing in a garbage bin?" The one I automatically figured as a loud mouth interrogated. Although short as well, he was a bit taller than the man that helped me out. His skin was a darker tone, and his accent wasn't as obvious.
The guy that lifted me out gave him a disapproving look but the taller man disregarded the look and continued to gape at me.
I scratched my head and said nothing looking at them as if I were lost.
"I think she's crazy."Ignoring his remark, I looked behind them. Their truck stood proudly in the middle of the alley.
My eyes widened.
"Yes, if we didn't hear you mumbling in there ... you would've been dead by now."
Don't say nothing Audrie. Keep acting crazy. You're in an alley... with two strange men... one of which seems nice... while the other has absolutely no sense of self respect.
My eyes went even wider at that thought. I quickly walked past them ignoring the taller man as he confirmed that I was insane.
Shit. My phone. I mustered all the courage I possible can and went back to the bin as they were climbing back in the truck.
The taller man caught me first. "Hey hey where are you going?" he screamed. He slammed his door and followed me.
Ignoring him I tried to dive back into the dumpster.
"There are other ways to committ suicide you know!" He sarcastically joked.
Before I can reach my phone, which was only inches from my fingertips, I felt strongs arms jolt me back.
Realizing what was happening, I finally screamed. "Let me GOOO!"
He dropped me on the floor.
"Hey Bill," he called back as his friend was making his way back towards us. "I think she's trying to kill herself."
I stood again and glared at the taller man as hard as I could. "My. Phone. Is. In. There. SMART ASS!"
He wrinkled his forhead. Bill just shook his head and returned to the truck. "Get your phone and go." he grumbled before slamming his door.
Hmph! I lifted my chin at the taller man and went to grab my phone. Jumping out of the bin smiling. I shined it at the man and gave him my back.
I marched until the edge of the alley, I checked my messages.
Holy sh-There were 25 messages, the last one was sent 28 minutes ago from Meriç.
He's stll hre.
Meriç warned. I bet the last 24 messages were from him as well. Jeff was still near my apartment.
I turned around again, and marched right back to Bill and his friend. The truck was lifting the bin so I had to scream.
"Hey!" I waved my hands inches away from the front of the truck. Bill and his friend both gave me funny looks before Bill stopped the machine and jumped out.
"Are you insane!" He yelled.
"Look, I need your help." I reasoned ignoring his comment.
"Need my help!" he scuffed. "What can I possibly help you with!"
I looked up towards the slightly open window on the 2nd floor of the apartment. Bill followed my gaze."Sorry," was all he replied before turning to march back to his truck.
"Please?" I begged catching up and grabbing his sleeve like a child.
Ignoring my plee, he kept walking.
"You don't understand, he's after me." I tried again squinting as I waited for his response.
It worked! Bill stopped in his tracks at that. "Who's he?" His tone became serious.
Who should I say?
"A guy.." I thought- "a real big guy!" I exxagerated "he wants me to be his girlfriend I lied, "he keeps stalking me and wont leave me alone." I pouted my lips in the end to add to the drama of what I was saying.
"I have a daughter your age," bill clenched his fists shaking his head. "What exactly do you need?" He nodded finally agreeing to help me out and looked up at the window I was gazing at.
In less than five minutes he was backing up the truck to stand inches away from the wall. Bill put it on park and hopped out of the passenger side.
"Give me your hand," he helped me step on the truck. I climbed it to the highest I can get without falling into it. The odor that was coming from it no longer bothered me.
Bill climbed the truck after me.
"You guys watch your step," his friend called from below.
I placed my hands on the wall and peered through the open window. The first room was empty. It seemed as though no one was home.
I turned to Bill, "I think it's empty."
"Let me go first, just in case." Bill helped me step back and lifted himself into the room.
"Careful," his friend worried form below.
A few minutes later Bill pears out, "come on," he extends his hands.
Running, hiding, and breaking in.. now I feel like Jason Bourne.
