Bill climbed out of the apartment as soon as I made it in and prepared for the rest of our plan.
The blue print to all the rooms were exactly the same so it didn't take me long to figure out where the door was. Slowly twisting the knob I creaked the door
open just an inch and peeked out. The hall was empty. Opening the door a little more, I poked my head out and looked up and down the hall. Not a single soul.
Quietly I stepped out and slowly shut the door behind me. Checking up and down the hall again, I quickly made a run towards the stairwell. I swung the doorsopen and jogged up the stairs skipping a few steps. Two flights of stairs led me straight to the doors of the third floor, I stood on my toes to peek through the
windows. There was one woman on this part of the hall, to get to Raimondo's room I had to turn one extra corner. Jeff was nowhere in sight, and this was all that
mattered.
I pulled out my phone.
Meriç didn't reply to the text I sent earlier."Come on Meriç." I whispered as I resent the text.
I stared at my phone for an entire two minutes.
No reply.
I went out into the hall and walked all the way to the corner. With my back to the wall I listened for the elevator. Slowley, I peeked around the corner. There
was no sign of Jeff.
Where the hell is he?
The elevator doors opened. I peeked again to see who was coming out. Bill, and his friend piled out of the elevator with a large linen bin. The wheels to the
bin sqeeked as bill pushed it back.
"Hey," Bill spotted me and motioned for me to hop into the bin. I darted towards them and did a back flip into the bin before anyone could see me. Adjustingmyself inside, I looked up and gave Bill a cheecky grin. He winked at me and smiled.
I covered myself with the clean linen. This is one hell of an upgrade from the smelly bin I spent the night in.
Bill roled the bin towards my room. They stopped, and then knocked. I peeked up only to get Bill's friend give me a dissapproving look. Like a child who wasjust scolded by her parents, I ducked my head back under the linen.
Bill knocked another time. "I think no one's in," Bill told his friend loud enough for me to hear as well.
Someone slightly pushed the bin before knocking again. This time it sounded like Bill or his friend was knocking on Raimondo's door.
Suddenly, my phone began to vibrate.I checked the screen.
The number flashing on the screen was unknown to me. I ignored the call and stuffed the phone back into my pocket.
It could be Austin, or it could be Jeff. I wasn't about to take any chances. There was one more knock before someone finally opened the door.
"Yeah?"
"Hello, sir. Are you Rai-?" I heard Bill begin.
"No," the voice cut him off. I knew that voice. It did not belong to Raimondo.
"Who are you then?" His friend asks haughtilty making me chuckle silently.
"Excuse me?"
"Oh shit, I done went too far." Bill's friend whispered.
"What he meant to say was, if you aren't Raimondo. Do you know where we can find him?" Bill hopefully pressed.
After a pause the man finally replied. "Who's asking?"
Where do I know that voice from?
"Bill and Skyler."
"He isn't here." Was all I heard before the door slammed.
"Motherfu-" Skyler began before something hit him. He groaned. "What the hell?"
"I wouldn't let you use that language around my daughter-"
I removed the linen from over my head and glare at them both. "Knock again and give him this bin with me in it."
They looked at each other unsure if they should listen to my crazy suggestion.
"No," Skyler refused first.
"No?" I raised my eyebrows.
Skyler looked at Bill for help.
"No," Bill nodded agreeing with Skyler.
What the hell? Fine. I stood and was about to step out of the bin when they both grabbed a shoulder and puched me back in.
I sighed in frustration. "Look, this way even if Raimondo is really not in there I could stay in the bin until he returns." I tried to convince them both.
Skyler shook his head while Bill sighed in defeat. "Okay."
"Okay? My man, are you high?" Skyler was about ready to pounce on Bill."Okay." Bill nodded again watching me but clearly thinking about something else. "We will do that. But, Skyler gets in there with you."
"What!" Skyler and I simultaneously choke.
"Move your elbow, it's hurting me." I whispered for only Skyler to hear.Bill managed to sneak us into the room after he talked both Skyler and I into staying in the bin together. He was taking the fact that I was the same age as
his daughter a bit too seriously and created a strong protective barrier. Bill was going to finish his stops without Skyler and come back here with his own car. Skyler
reminded him that if the truck isn't returned in time the boss would most definately fire them both.
I wasn't keeping count of time so I didn't know how long we've been in the room. What I do know is that the man who answered Bill and Skyler earlier was still
in the room and Raimondo was either sleeping or not in here at all. It didn't sound like there could possibly be a third person in the room because then that person
would most likely start a conversation with the man in here. I mean it's the most natural and human thing to do when there is someone sharing the same space with you,
dialogue. Hopefully my philosophy is the reality of this situation.
Pulling out my cell phone, I put the ringer on silent rather than vibrate. Considering the level of silence in the room, I couldn't afford for it to go off at
any moment. I searched through the missed calls. There were a few from Meriç, three unknowns, and some from my boss...
Shit. There was also a text message from him.
I opened the message.
Consider yourself jobless Ms. Hawthorne.
The merciless- impatient bastard.
I clicked my way back to the inbox. There were a few more text messages from Meriç. I randomly pressed one of the unread messages.
The cops r lookng 4u.
What? Why were they looking for me? Did he call them?
I opened the previous text from him.
Sammuel is dead.
