I should've fixed that habit of reaching for my gun every time trouble comes up.

It's just that... unexpected trouble hardly popped up. And I never had time to fix it. So it ended up like this.

Yes, all those blond kids were me. God has given me ever since Titus the power the cancel magic, so magic bullets never worked on me. I was just scaring Noah; the Lord told me that I was not allowed to harm him.

I remembered when I was born. My parents were from Israel. Ironic, since I was first born there.

They were friends with the Luthers, so my parents dropped me off at their place when I was one so that they could work on their job: archeology. That's why my name is Anubis: because of the Egyptian mythology that they so dearly loved. I see them once a year.

Anyway, Reiji grew onto me. He liked to play with me.

And especially try to help Ikuto out.

Ikuto came to them before I did. Supposedly his parents knew the Luthers too before they died in a magic leakage; sort of like a radioactive spill, but rarer and with magic. But Reiji claimed that even before he came to them he never smiled. I guess that remembering your parents being dead is hard on a person who can remember and understand a lot, but has the mind of a baby.

And that's when Reiji decided to befriend him when we were two. We knew that he could turn into a cat, so we tried catnip and the fluffy thing that looks like a tail.

Then, I gave the idea of trying taiyaki. It's this Japanese cake snack that is shaped like a fish, with this one filled with chocolate. We bought one and gave it to him. He immediately took it and started eating it from the tail.

We just silently looked at him with shock, and then Reiji started to laugh. "He's a cat!"

Yeah, I thought it was funny too that he was eating it like a cat would eat a fish. But strangely, I thought I saw Ikuto have a faint smile on his face.

Anyway, after that, Ikuto started following us after that. We did little kid games after that. There was this one time when we were playing an old fashioned game of capture the flag with a group of kids. Ikuto took the flag and ran really fast.

When we won and went to find Ikuto, we found him as a cat up in a tree. He transformed as he jumped down, then taking the flag from inside his shirt.

Reiji grinned. "Pretty clever for a six year old."

I froze. Reiji would say something like how awesome it was or how he wished he could be a cat, but never how smart it was.

Ikuto noticed too, as his pupils went like a cat's. "You don't smell like Reiji. Who are you?"

The unknown shadow in Reiji looked at us and laughed. "I thought I was careful. I guys not. But Reiji is never coming back!"
