They were laying in the bed, looking into eachother's eyes, their hands intertwined, both enjoying the beauty of this moment, wishing it would never end.
"Why can't I see your wings?" Dean asked all of sudden curiously.
"You wanna see them?" Cas asked teasingly and smiled as leaned forward and slowly, softly kissed Dean wrapping his arms around him.
Suddenly a bright light surrounded them and when Dean opened his eyes, he was standing on a narrow path in the middle of nowhere. As he looked around, he realized how beautiful the place was. Birds were flying everywhere, flowers of different colours were all around and sun was shining high above his head. And then there was Castiel. He was standing right next to Dean, his beautiful golden wings spread behind him, almost sparkling as the sunlight was reflecting on them.
"Cas..." Dean wanted to tell him so many things, but his breath was literally taken away by all the beauty around him.
"Are we... In heaven? Shouldn't I be, like, dead?" Dean asked looking at the angel, worried.
"You were in hell, Dean. You were on the other side and you came back. You are... Immune. I don't know how about hell, but here? We can come here whenever we want" Cas smiled, looking around.
"So this is how heaven looks?" Dean asked quietly, almost afraid he could ruin the beauty of this moment by talking.
"This is your heaven. You create your own heaven. You can't hide any feelings here, you can't bury the truth, you can't lie to yourself. This place is made of your feelings and your memories. Whatever you think about will happen. You can be wherever you want to be, see whatever you want to see." the angel smiled and stepped closer, wrapping his wings around Dean from behind, pecking his neck softly.
"Show me your best memories" he whispered smiling and closed his eyes. He was expecting to see Dean at home with his family, back in the days when they were all happy or at Bobby's with his brother, because he believed those were Dean's best memories.
Dean closed his eyes and tried to remember the moments that he wished never ended. The moments when he felt freedom, safety,...Love.
When he opened his eyes, he was standing in a field, bright lights reflecting on the wings that were still wrapped protectively around his torso. He looked around and it took him a minute before he realized where they were. Before he could explain it to the angel who was watching him with a soft smile playing on his lips, two voices cut through the night and they turned around just in time to see two boys entering the field, chasing after eachother and laughing.
"Sammy, that's cheating!"
"You only say that because you're losing!"
"You're gonna take that back!"
The two figures were running around them wothout a care in the world, wide smiles on their faces. Soon the taller boy tackled the smaller one to the ground and they ended up rolling around in the dirt and grass, laughing and shouting profanities at eachother playfully.
"He got beaten up after a football match after his team lost because of him. I promised I would teach him to play better, so we sneaked out of the house in the middle of the night and went here. It was the first time I saw him genuinely happy after we moved here, so I let him win every time," Dean smiled, lost in his memories. "He was so proud of himself, was telling me about how he was gonna smash the next match and show the guys on his team who they were messing with... We left the next day," he sighed, his smile slowly dissapearing as he turned to look at Cas.
"He's very lucky to have a brother like you, Dean," the angel said, not a sign of humor or irony in his voice, before leaning down to peck his lips softly, wrapping his arms around Dean and smiling into the kiss.
"Show me more," he smiled and his wings wrapped around the other man's body, pulling him closer.
This time Dean just let his memories flow, not really looking for anything in particular, letting his mind wander freely through the thousands of memories in his head.
Soon the bright light enveloped them again and when their eyes opened, they found themselves back in the trashy motel room, where they spent the past few days. They were both looking around with confused expressions, before a soft sound caught their attention and they both made their way over to the other side of the room, searching for the source of the sounds.
Soon enough they saw what, or maybe more like who, was making the sounds, and their reactions couldn't have been more different. Dean burried his face in his hands, feeling his cheeks flush bright red, while Cas was watching him with fondness written all over his face before taking his hands in his own and pulling him closer, making him look up.
"Really?," he smiled fondly at Dean, who just nodded with a shy smile playing on his lips, and Cas decided he definitely needs to embarrass Dean more often, because he looked impossibly cute and wonderful with his cheeks red and eyes unsure. He leaned down and kissed him, slowly, trying to tell him how he feels without using words, their lips fitting together like puzzle pieces. The two figures who were still kissing on the couch slowly started fading as Dean got distracted from his memory, getting lost in the angel once again.
"I really like you, you know," Dean whispered, smiling softly at the man standing in front of him.
"I really like you too."
