Darkness. It was surrounding him, threatening to drown him, clutching around him like a snake around it's prey, pushing him over the edge. His body was numb and his conciousness was slipping away a bit more every time the knife sunk into his skin. He lost the count of how long he was there, eventually the days and nights became a blur of never ending pain and torture.
His wrists and ankles were sore as he was tied to the bed with thick ropes, and even though cold wind was blowing into the room, he felt like his whole body was on fire.
"Now let's see what else we got here," Vasilisa said with an excited smile like she was a five year old unwrapping new toys. Cas left yesterday and still haven't came back, which left Dean in the company of the crazy woman who was obviously enjoying all of this too much.
"Hmmmm...How about this one right here?" she asked and picked up a short sword that was already stained with blood, smiling to herself as she wiped it off with a tissue. Dean bit his lip, knowing what would come next, and closed his eyes tightly.
As he felt the cold metal biting into his skin, the door opened.
Cas almost fell to the ground before leaning against the door frame, his coat blood-stained, his face full of bruises and cuts. Vasilisa frowned and quickly walked up to him, helping him walk to the couch where she sat him down.
"What happened?" she asked with a worried look on her face.
"Dean..get him out...they will come for-" his voice cracked and he started coughing up blood, his whole body shaking. She was sitting next to him, a wrinkle forming between her eyebrows as she watched him fall to the ground in pain, his eyes filled with tears as he couldn't breathe properly.
Her eyes turned to Dean, who was now trying to lift his head enough to see what was happening, and a growl escaped her lips before she held out a hand towards him, concentrating all the power she had into the single action led by the anger and fear she was feeling. Cas, who finally stopped coughing, saw what she was doing and in one swift movement he stood up and jumped in front of her, right when she released the power towards Dean, planning to get rid of him before they get in trouble.
So many things happened within a few seconds.
Cas, seeing the deadly light heading towards Dean, took a step to the side, protecting the other man with his own body. Vasilisa realized what was happening and jumped in front of Cas, ready to protect the only person she had left.
A blinding light filled the whole room along with screams of pain before everything went black
"Dean "Dean? Dean come on, wake up!" a familiar voice made its way into his head, making him slowly open his eyes. Sam was kneeling next to him, a wrinkle forming between his eyebrows as he look at Dean with a worried look.
"Sam?" his voice came out more like a whisper and he coughed a few times before sitting up. He looked around the room expecting to see the woman's and Cas' bodies to be laying on the ground, but he couldn't see them.
"Are you alright?" Sam cocked his head, examining the other man's face. There was a few scratches here and there, a bruise going along his jaw, but except that he seemed to be okay.
"What are you doing here?" Dean asked and looked from his brother to Bobby and back.
When Sam woke up in a hotel room, he was confused. He didn't know why he was there or how he got there, he went looking for Dean but gave up after two hours of running throught the woods and asking random people if they saw him. He knew there was an explanation for this, he just couldn't remember what it was. It was almost as if someone took certain little pieces of his memory and hid them somewhere deep in his mind.
When he got back to the hotel, Bobby was awake and he was just as confused as Sam. Finally they decided to go ask the man who owned the place, to see if he doesn't know anything. The old man looked frightened when he saw them, stuttering at every word, his hands were shaking and he was looking everywhere but at the two of them. Sam and Bobby exchanged questioning looks but didn't say anything. After a few minutes, the man came back from his flat, holding a little piece of paper, handing it to Sam as fast as he could before walking away without another word.
The paper was folded neatly, but it was obvoius that whoever wrote the note was in rush. There were numbers written all over the white paper, each of them starting with one letter. It took them almost two weeks to figure out what the seemingly random numbers meant.
The coordinates scribbled down on the paper marked five different places, but there was also a message hidden. After what seemed like forever, they finally figured out which of them is the right one and headed towards New Orleans, not knowing what was waiting for them.
"And then we came here and saw the light,...I- I thought you were dead," Sam said quietly, looking down.
"I'm alright," Dean assured him and stood up to give his brother a hug. After a while he pulled back and scanned the room with his eyes again, hoping he would see Cas somewhere, but there was not a single trace of him.
"Dean... what are you looking for?" Sam raised an eyebrow.
"Where are they?" Dean asked, taking a few steps across the room, "I mean Cas and the russian chick, they... they were right here and I swear I heard them scream, but there's nothing here. Where are they?" he looked at Sam with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Dean...what are you talking about? What russian chick? And who the hell is 'Cas'?"
