"Comfortable?" I asked Luke. We'd moved what little he had in the infirmary back to his cabin, claiming an empty bed in the corner. I was surprised there was even room, we'd gotten an influx of new campers. Fortunately, most of them got claimed within minutes of walking inside the border.
"Yeah. Thanks, Annabeth." He smiled up at me and took my hand. "Do you think you could find Thalia sometime so I can see her?"
I nodded. "You should know, she's probably going to punch you for being stupid."
He laughed. "I was expecting as much."
"I should get going, I've got stuff to do before curfew." I said, starting to pull away.
Luke's grip on my hand tightened slightly, then loosened. "Alright." He shrugged.
"Unless you want me to stay?" I asked.
"I was going to ask you to, but if you need to do something," He waved me away, "I can deal with that."
I frowned, then sat down on the edge of his bed. "I'll stay for a little longer."
"Okay." Luke smiled.
A few more Hermes kids came into the cabin, but just like the ones who were already in here, they left us alone, wrestling around on the other side of the cabin.
"Are you going to go home, since you can't fight? I think your mother might not be insane anymore, we've got a proper oracle." I knew the subject of his mom was touchy, but I asked the question anyway.
Luke stiffened a little. "I don't know. I want to be here, but I want to make sure she's okay. Maybe Chiron can make an exception and let her into camp."
"Tell you what, I'll talk to him about it and we can drive out there and see if she's okay." I promised. "But not today, it's getting kind of late to go that far."
"Right." Luke tried to hide the yawn that was coming on, but I could tell he was tired.
"You should sleep. I'm sure it takes a lot of effort to get in and out of the wheelchair."
He chuckled. "Yeah...remember that time that I broke my leg?"
"And you refused to get in the wheelchair so I had to help you walk around everywhere for weeks?" I nodded. "I remember."
"I'm thinking now that I made the right choice. Wheelchairs suck."
"At least you get to sit down all the time."
"Oh yeah, that's great for my ADHD." He said sarcastically. I laughed.
"Good point."
---------------------------
I heard familiar laughter as I walked past the Hermes cabin. Backing up, I glanced in the window to see Annabeth sitting at Luke's bedside. She was smiling and it seemed they were sharing stories from before I had showed up at camp all those years ago.
I smiled. It was good that Annabeth could catch up with him, they had practically been siblings.
Checking my watch, I realized that I had a good forty minutes before curfew and death by cleaning harpy.
Jogging back to my room, I pulled my board from under my bed and ran out to the beach.
Rachel was sitting cross-legged in the sand, a canvas resting on a small easel in front of her and a palette in her hand.
"What are you working on?" I asked her.
"Just a sunset painting." She said without looking up.
"Who's that?" I asked, pointing at the corner of the painting, where a couple was passionately embracing each other. They were simply silhouettes against the brightness of the sunset behind them.
"I don't know." Rachel shrugged. She looked up at me and motioned for me to lean in. "It's one of my visions." She explained quietly.
I nodded. "Well that doesn't seem like a horrible vision."
"It all depends on who the couple is, doesn't it?" Rachel said. She pointed her brush at my board. "Are you going surfing?"
"Just for a little bit, yes."
"Well don't let me stop you." Rachel waved me off. "Curfew is soon, isn't it?"
"Yeah." I turned and jogged towards the water. "I'll try not to get you wet!" I called over my shoulder.
"I'd appreciate that." She laughed.
It didn't matter though. By the time I'd gotten out far enough and built a wave up, Rachel had packed up her things. She waved at me as she walked off and I waved back.
Once she was clear of the beach, I let the wave I was holding go and pushed myself to my feet as my board was caught in the rush of water.
All alone out on the water, I felt very at peace. I was on my home turf, in the place I belonged. Whenever I was on the water, I could clear my head and just focus on enjoying myself.
After about my fifth wave, someone called my name from the beach.
Annabeth stood there, her blonde curls cascading down her shoulders and practically glowing as the sunset behind me.
"Percy! It's almost curfew, come on!"
I shot myself forward, not using a wave but simply propelling my board forward with the water below it.
Hopping off in the shallows, I grabbed my board and scrambled up to meet my girlfriend on the sand.
"Is Luke situated?" I asked her, kissing her on the lips quickly.
"As well as he can be." She smiled and slipped her arm around my waist as we walked back towards the cabins.
[A/N So Luke's back in his own cabin now. And he gets to hang out with his 'sister' Annie...and I forgot to title this when I first posted it XD I've fixed it now]
