The day after I found out about Ina was the day we set out to find Apple. I was terrified that we would have to kill her. Stupid, huh? I was scared to kill her if it came down to it.

I glanced over at Apple's friend, Kai. He had a stoic look on his face, as if he were indifferent to Apple's condition, her whereabouts, her... everything. I am not sure why that seemed to upset me, but it did.

"Calnan!" the leader of our group, Max Grey, barked, "Centre, middle!"

I nodded, directing my horse into the formation. He had me in the direct centre, as if trying to protect me. I snorted and realised that I was diagonally behind Kai. I sighed, looking Max over.

He had to be at least in his thirties, maybe early forties, probably not though. He has silvery brown hair and amber eyes. Like the majourity the group on this mission, he was an assassin brought in from the regular world.

Max was one of the men who hoped that Apple had abandoned her duties to the camp. He wants to kill her. A lot of people do, and no one has a reason except she is an exceptional assassin. Mister Ambrose has a real reason that you will never hear him voice.

I am not sure what his reason is myself. Apple knows, but she never told me. I have asked her plenty of times, but she just waves off my questions. It kind of worries me. What could be so bad that she would not tell me? She has been training me for years... since I was brought in and started training.

Kai looked behind him, "Calnan, stay sharp. Use the abilities Apple taught you. It could just help you stay alive."

"I was going to use them anyway. I do not need any help from you, Cox," I sneered.

He shrugged, "If I were you, I would be careful what you say to who. It could end badly."

"Yeah, well, I am not scared of you, Cox, so I will say what I please."

He rolled his eyes, "Whatever, Calnan. I was not talking just about me. There are more dangerous assassins in the camp than I who would love to kill you if you give them a reason to."

I growled, "You cannot scare me into being nice, Cox, I hope you know. There is nothing you can tell me that will change who I am and what I do. I do not appreciate you trying to do just that. Do you not understand what I am telling you?"

"Oh, I do, Calnan. Believe me, I do understand. I just thought that if I told you, then maybe you would try and be a little less sarcastic and rude, however, it seems as though no matter what I tell you, you just will not heed my warnings. I suppose I bear no responsibility for your death, since I did tell you that you should watch what you say. Your death is on you, Calnan, and I will feel neither guilt nor remorse for any death."

I growled again. Kai royally pisses me off. He was semi-born into this life. Kai Cox is good friends with Apple. Apple is probably one of the only assassins born into the life who associates herself with those brought into the life. Her, Gian, Kai, and Heaven. They associate themselves with Ginger, Aspen, and Kane. Only Apple associates with me.

I guess you could say that I am pretty disliked among the assassins. Both assassins born into this life and those who were brought do not like me much. I am pretty sarcastic, rude, whatever you want to say. I am on most of the assassin's bad sides at camp.

Max Grey finished up with our formation and went to the head of the group. He led us up over the rolling hills that surround the camp. He gripped an amulet of the gemstone garnet. It was our source of protection on this trip.

I looked around me, taking in the sight of the camp, knowing that it may be the last time. Massive rolling hills surrounded the actual camp. The sleeping cabins were located on the sides of the hills. The dining cabin was in the direct centre of camp. There were some cabins to repair armour, repair weaponry, or get those items.
