Hey, shoutout to 97-chevy-impala-imagines on tumblr for letting me use a whole ton of imagine prompts from their blog. I have about 9 upcoming imagines using ideas from the blog. So, thanks!  I also decided to bump this specific imagine up, for someone who requested a Cas X reader and made me realize that I haven't even posted one before now. Here's to you guys!

"Dean?" you ask, sipping your morning coffee, "Have you heard from Cas recently?"

"I was going to tell you..." he mumbles, looking up at you from his seat at the table and slightly raising his voice, "Cas called me last night...he's in a hospital."

Your heart skips a couple beats and your blood instantly feels hot under your skin. "Oh my god! What happened? Is he ok?"

"Well, you know Cas. He's not much of a talker, and he didn't really explain much..."

You sigh angrily and hold a hand out. "Give me your phone."

Dean reluctantly passes his phone, and you go through his recent calls until you find an unknown number from last night. Tapping it, you wait for it to dial and ring. Brrrr brrrr. Brrrrr brrrrr. Brrrrr brr—

"Hello?" the exhausted voice of Castiel comes through the phone, sending a wash of relief over your body.

"Cas? Are you ok?"

By the sighs on the other line, you can tell Cas is relieved as well. "Y/n, I'm ok. Don't worry."

"But what happened? How are you in the hospital?"

"Well, they put me in an ambulance and drove down main street..."

You laugh. "No, I meant, how did you get hurt if you're an omnipotent angel?"

"I'm not omnipotent—"

"You know what I meant."

"Well, now that I'm human I forgot how vulnerable and frail bodies can be—"

"What?" you nearly shout, cutting him off yet again, "Human? Since when? Why haven't I heard about this?"

He pauses for a moment. "Dean didn't tell you? When Metatron stole my grace and used it to cast the angels from heaven, I remained human."

After being bombarded by all this new information, you sit at the table and glare at Dean, who simply shrugs an apology. You tap your nails on the table and think out your words carefully. "Why didn't you call and keep me updated? I worry about you—"

You cut yourself off, pinch the bridge of your nose, and start over, "Cas,  I didn't know any of this. I thought you were just running from angels. I didn't know Metatron took your grace."

"I am running from angels and staying with various residents in the area."

"You should come stay with us. I miss you." You absently put on a pout, forgetting he can't see it as you trace the wood grains in the table with a finger.

"Y/n, you know I can't be near you. If they find me, they will smite everyone important to me. You're too close."

Tears sting your eyes, but you wipe them away with a sniff. Standing up, Dean pats your shoulder and exits the room to give you some space.

"Y/n, I love you, but we can't be together just yet."

"I can't even visit you at the hospital?"

"No...I know that telling you that you're in danger isn't going to stop you, but by coming to see me, everyone is threatened. You. Me. Sam. Dean. Everyone within a mile's distance. It's not safe yet. And it won't be for...for a very long time."

"But it's already been a very long time," you say with a cheerless chuckle as if you're giving up hope.

"I know, Y/n, I know. I long to see you, to speak with you under perfect conditions, but for now, we can speak through this machine."

"I love you, Castiel."

"I love you too, Y/n."

"Take care of yourself, and check in with me. I want to know if you're ok."

"I will, I promise."

"Love you."

"Goodbye, Y/n."

You can barely tear the phone from your ear after the beep of Cas hanging up. When you do, your arm is overpowered by gravity, and it drops to the table. Tears fill your eyes, but you blink them back in preparation for the 'very long time' ahead.
