Michael woke me up with nothing but a whisper in the morning.
"Rise and shine big boy."
"Urgggg what time is it?'
"Time for you to wake up. Aka 6 am."
I sat up and looked around the room, trying to remember everything that had happened the previous day. Michael had gotten up even earlier than me and gotten his car like he said he would. Everything was going to be fine. I noticed some clothes on the floor and realized they were mine. Michael had chosen what outfit I was going to wear.
"Aww that's adorable!" I commented.
"Ya ya, cute as a fucking button. Now I'd hurry it up because everything is ready when you are."
I got up and changed in to the jeans and vav shirt quickly, not wanting to test Michael's patience. I placed the creeper necklace on me and took the box full of equipment to the car. I wanted to wash my face and use the restroom but I knew the noise could wake up Geoff.
"Are you excited?" I asked as we got in the car.
"That's one way to put it. I'm just hoping we don't run in to any unexpected problems."
With that Michael pulled out of the driveway, leaving Geoff's house forever. The night before all I had been thinking about was how much I would miss everyone, but right then I was just starting to get excited. I wondered what this new world would feel like with just me and Michael. I would however still be able to contact everyone I cared about, but for some reason I was having doubts in my mind about that part. Maybe that was why I had written the letter the night before.
During the long drive I didn't bother asking how Michael was able to find out where to go with just google maps. But I did ask a lot about what he thought the new life was going to be like.
"Will be able to feel things? Like, use our senses?"
"I thought they said we would get like new senses or something like that."
"Do you know how to actually do it? I mean I don't even know where-"
"Yes!" he interrupted, obviously irritated. I didn't ask him more about the subject or about how he knew. "Maybe you should stop asking stupid questions and wonder about the serious threats."
"Like what?"
Michael rolled his eyes at me. I had obviously not figured out something important. "Like the fact that where we're going has the only super computers for miles around."
"So?"
"So if Malachi isn't as much of a retard as you he'll be able to guess where we're heading. Thanks to you he knows we're only interested in getting out of this world as quick as possible."
"Why doesn't he want us to use it so bad anyway?"
"Because you can only use the gear once and it costs a ton of money maybe... I don't know! Remind me to fucking ask him when he shows up with a gun at my head!"
I pouted and turned away, looking out the window. Michael was always in the worst mood when he was stressed, and these days that was basically all we got. It was going to be good to get away. Forever. I let out a deep breath at the idea. No more work and no more worries. I would no longer have to earn money because there would be no use for it in a computer world, we didn't need food or water.
"I love you," I told Michael even though I knew he was concentrating on where we were going. I don't think he heard me, but it was alright. Michael was going to be happy from then on. When Michael was happy, I was happy. I was going to be happy from then on.
