Michael said he didn't want anyone else to know about his eviction or about the gang taking his money, but we told them about Michael's car getting towed. When I had offered to pay for the fee he had just said, "What's the point? We're going to be leaving soon and all we need is one car." He wouldn't shut up about the whole running away plan. Where would we even go?

We had an awkward couple of days. Me and Michael tried to have more fun days playing video games a such, but it was no fun when Ray was sitting so close. He was very quiet, keeping his head down at all times. It was a strange relationship with Michael and Ray that I had never ever expected to have. Sometimes we would just be doing normal playful stuff that we did when we were just friends but Michael would pull away and stop talking just because Ray was listening to us. Soon a week went by living like this and I had grown used to it. Me and Michael would act like friends throughout the day, just chatting and occasionally I would do little things to annoy him which would make him start yelling at me. When we got back to my house he would usually spend the time on the couch by the front door on my computer. Sometimes we would watch T.V. shows together. It kind of felt like we were a married couple, besides the fact he always refused to sleep in my bed with me.

One day when we went to work Ray was acting especially weird.

"What's up Ray?" Geoff asked.

"Nothin," He said, snapping out of it.

"You want some coffee? Joel made a ton."

"That's alright man. I just need some time to myself." Ray made eye contact directly with me before turning around in his chair and starting to work.

Geoff noticed and gave me an odd look. It was hard hiding things from him, that had been the whole reason I had moved out of his house in the first place. I quickly turned around and started working. Geoff was opening his mouth to say something when Gus ran into the doorway.

"Party at my place after work, it's been decided!" he said.

"I'm in," Ray said.

"Ya sure man," Geoff agreed.

I thought for a second. "I don't know if me and Michael-" Geoff turned around and looked at me suspiciously. Oops. "It'll be fine. I can come!"

"Great. Invite everyone," Gus said before leaving.

As soon as he left Michael came in with two mugs of coffee.

"Hey Joel made coffee! This is for you," He said, handing me one of them. Michael noticed both Ray and Geoff staring at us.

"Oh sorry did you guys want some?"

"Naw man it's cool. Gus is having a party tonight by the way, you in?" Geoff asked.

Michael looked at me for approval and I nodded my head.

"Is it just me or does it feel like Michael and Gavin always have kinda secret plans after work?" He asked Ray. He phrased it so it wasn't an accusation and it wasn't a big deal, but he was obviously thinking things he shouldn't know. Ray looked from him to us to him, as if this had been his secret fear all week.

"No not really Michael just needs to use Gavin's car now. That's all," he gulped.

Geoff didn't reply he just kinda fake-laughed.

Michael just tried to avoid the conversation entirely and went back to work, sipping his coffee. He was definitely acting more awkward around Ray then me, like he was ashamed of what he was. Personally, I thought we needed to talk to Ray more about it so he didn't tell anyone. But Michael had always felt more in charge even when we weren't "together". He always had the final say in things, and usually the first as well.
