I kept looking from out the window to my phone. I was still getting text messages and calls from almost all of my friends and co-workers, and only then took the time to read over all of them. Luckily it seemed that Geoff had told all of them that we were coming back soon, maybe he had even made up a few lies about what we were doing. I wasn't sure why he was helping so much. I had actually been expecting he would tell everyone about me and Michael's relationship, but maybe I wanted it that way.
I thought a lot in those couple of hours. I thought about what I wanted. I wanted everything back to the way it was. Well, almost everything. I needed Michael to be with me and I needed to know that he really did feel everything I felt. But we couldn't just be together like that and have everything back to normal, not if we were going to keep our secrets to ourselves like that. That's exactly what Michael wanted to do, and I always did everything Michael said. I didn't have to though.
I only took out my phone when I was certain of what I wanted to do. I clicked on my contacts and messaged Geoff with the words, 'You can tell the others about me and Michael now, sick of the secrets :('. I only lingered on the send button for a few seconds.
I would have told everyone myself, but I didn't know how long it would be until I could see them. I imagined their faces as Geoff announced to everyone that we were gay. It wouldn't even resolve anything, it would only add to the confusion. But I didn't want them to think of me and Michael as the mysterious ones anymore. Especially if it might be... the last impression they had of us.
As soon as the sending screen had disappeared, my phone burst into life and nearly gave me a heart attack. It was Michael.
"Hello?" I screeched as I answered the call.
"Gavin I'm back in Austin," He whispered.
"How did you get back there!?"
"I'll explain when you get your ass over here, now! I'm in the cafe not far from the office."
"The office? Won't people see you? And what are you even doing in the-"
"For god's sake start driving!" He yelled before he hung up.
I threw my phone on to the passenger seat and started driving, un-aware of any sounds it might have made after that. I had been sitting in Michael's car for so long it felt good to finally start moving.
I drove as fast as I could, breaking the speed limit most of the time. I stayed away from the place where we had crashed Ryan's car just a few days earlier. After a while I finally made it in to town. It felt strange to be back since I thought it would be ages until my next visit. I drove past the park where Michael had first told me he loved me and couldn't help but drive slowly down that road. In that park I hadn't thought very much about what the future for me and Michael would be like, I was only overrun by joy. It was a feeling I wanted to have again.
When I made it to the office I slouched back in my seat a little and kept looking forward, hoping nobody would notice me. But the light had suddenly turned red and stopped me in my tracks. I only looked out the window for a second, but it was enough. Burnie had his hand blocking the light from his eyes and was standing right in the middle of the parking lot, looking at me. He raised his eyebrows as if he couldn't believe it and started opening his mouth to say something.
"Shit!" I said to myself, eyeing the light again. He started to walk towards me and then start to run.
"Gavin!?!" He yelled just as the light turned green. I raced away without a word, left to wonder what confused face he might have been wearing after that. I turned a corner and parked the car in a space right outside the cafe, not bothering to turn it off. Michael was standing right outside.
"Just get it the car!" I told him. He jumped in without a word, seeing I was in a hurry.
"Samuel went in the warehouse just over there," he said, pointing a couple blocks down.
"How on earth did you follow him all the way back here?"
"He got to a payphone and called someone who gave him a ride here. It was too late to call you so I kinda... improvised."
"What do you mean?"
"I jumped on the back of their pick-up truck. I hid under a blanket and they drove all the way over here and then walked over to that building."
"Woah no way!" I screeched. "I'm impressed!" He let out a laugh like it was no big deal.
"And uh... Is there something I should know?" He asked, noticing I was driving quickly away from where I had just seen Burnie.
"Don't freak out Michael but..." I didn't continue. I wasn't sure how to explain myself, and Michael was able to pick up that there was a problem.
"GOD FUCKING DAMMIT WHAT DID YOU DO THIS TIME!?!" Michael slammed his hands against the front of his dashboard. I turned around the block that the building was on and parked fairly far away from it so they wouldn't notice and because of parking.
"We need to get the stuff now if we're going to do this, the Rooster Teeth lads know we're here."
"Shit!" He yelped, putting everything together.
"We could just forget about the whole thing you know... we could just give them the chip and forget about-"
"NO GAVIN! THIS IS WHAT I WANT WEATHER YOU'RE IN IT OR NOT! I'M DOING THIS WITHOUT YOU!" He yelled as he got out of the door and slammed it behind him. I was at a standstill because I was so taken by surprise. What had gotten in to him? For a while his words were just random noises and I tried to make sense of them by repeating them over and over again in my mind, like I had forgotten English. Once I finally understood them I realized what they meant. He wanted to do this so much, he would even do it without me. I thought that doing it together was the whole purpose. Maybe he didn't like me as much as I thought he did...
But I got out of the car.
"Michael!" He turned around. "Wait for me!" I ran up to him and he just smirked to himself like he had been waiting for me.
"How are we going to do this?" He whispered, staying out of ear shot of pedestrians.
"You're the mastermind."
"Fine then, I'll come up with the plan." He gave me a mischievous glare and pulled up the bottom of his jacket, revealing he not only had his gun but mine as well. He had known I was going to join him, after all I had stuck by him since the very beggining.
