Maine waited for his call all night.
While she was packing her life in suitcases, half of her attention was glued to her phone; waiting for a ring.
She was almost finished with all her bags when she finally gave up.
This is why she is a cynical pessimist. Hindi naman sinasadya pero parang bakit tuwing may isang bagay siyang gustong-gusto, hindi siya pinagbibigyan ng universe.
Mas mabuti talaga ang hindi na lang mag expect. Mas mabuti na rin hindi naniniwala sa mga taong pogi, mabait, magaling magsalita, sweet, at may dimple na pa-fall pero hindi naman yata marunong gumamit ng cellphone. Napabuntong hininga ulit siya.
I knew it.
The guy was too good to be true.
It felt like summer camp all over again. Yung mga panahong excited ka kasi maraming bagong kaibigan pero panandalian lang pala sila, makakalimot din pag naghiwa-hiwalay na.
Should have expected this.
She threw her phone on the bed. One by one, she decided to gather all her luggage in the living room para mas madaling ibaba sa building sa umaga.
Maine was in the middle of organizing her carry-on bag and trying not to be too disappointed but failing when she heard it.
Her phone rang from her bedroom.
Dali-dali siyang napatayo at tumakbo papunta sa kwarto. Hinanap sa magulong kumot at mga unan ang cellphone.
When she finally found the source of the ringing she paused, kinapa ang kumakabog na dibdib at huminga ng malalim.
Meng, girl, kalma, it's just a phone call. Whooo! Kalma lang! Ok, game!
She flipped her phone to face her.
Dean.
It was just Dean,
Calling to FaceTime.
Sabi na nga, wag mag e-expect e!
UGH!
She took the call.
"Hi Menggay! Gusto mo ng hopia?"
Her brother was eating hopia.
Talaga naman, universe! Joker ka po!
"DEAAAN!!!" nanggigigil niyang sabi.
"Oh? Problema mo? Sabi ni Nanay tawagan daw kita para di ka na makatulog, mamiss mo pa flight mo mamaya."
"May inaantay akong tawag, ano ba?"
"Alas singko? Ng--wait, hapon dito so madaling araw dyan. Nag-aantay ka ng tawag ng alas singko ng madaling araw? Kanino kay Edward Cullen?"
"ARGH!!!"
"Nakow di na tatawag yun! Baka tulog pa o tulog na!"
"Kaasar ka naman e!"
Biglang sumulpot si Kuya Nico sa screen.
"Uy, Menggay! Sapatos ko ha?"
May inabot ito sa mesa at isinubo. Hopia.
"Nga pala, andaming hopia dito padala ni Kuya John- hopia baboy, hopia ube, hopia monggo, anong gusto mo? Ipagtitira ka namin."
"AAAHHHH! AYOKO NG HOPIA! AYOKO NG HOPIA!"
Maine trashed around, pummelling her pillows.
"'Nong problema ng kapatid mo?" Nico asked Dean.
The brothers watched their sister beat her beddings as they continued to munch on their hopia.
"Baliw", sabi nito sabay subo ng hopia.
