The sour taste of humiliation in the director's mouth did not show on his face even after the two of them had left the office side by side.
The subtleness of their shoulders touching as they walked through the corridors up until they'd entered the life together didn't go unnoticed by the people working at the station as they passed by, acting as if they didn't see any of them.
The more people gossip, the more they distort the story into something too extravagant and sometimes they go off track and form a completely different tale of their own.
At the end, all they needed was a raging fire of their relationship to go all around.
Sonali was handed her purse by one of the bodyguards and she pulled out a palm sized bottle of water from it. Shaurya heard the barely audible gulps she took, his eyes looking forward at the closed doors.
She could see him from the periphery of her vision, as well as the two other men standing in front of them while she knew there were two more men standing right behind them.
It was really suffocating to stand surrounded by five men in an enclosed space. It's been a long time since she had to be kept under protection like this, she'd gotten used to the freedom.
Their meeting with the director wasn't planned for today, it was a sudden decision made by him after he'd learnt about the recent changes that were going to take place in the media showcases about the new faces of the different political parties that were going to be represented this year.
They had to stall for some time until they were ready for it.
"Give a warning next time, will you?" She spoke once she was done emptying the small bottle and reapplied the lipstick that'd gone slightly lighter in shade.
Shaurya turned his head to look at her only to find her already facing him with one of her brows raised.
"Will keep that in mind for the next time." He gave a nod and offered his hand for her to hold. The said 'next time' was probably going to be after their marriage. Sonali did not speak her mind out and stared at the hand offered to her.
"The first appearance. Are you ready?"
"What do you think?" Sonali rolled her eyes as she held his hand meekly, making sure a genuine smile was visible on her face before they'd stepped out in front of the media people with hundreds of cameras.
Their relationship had to be seen and perceived strongly. It had to be believable enough in the public eyes. One silly mistake could cost her too much.
They kept their voices low as they made their way through the chaos, only passing shy smiles and pretending to not be interested in getting clicked on camera until both of them were inside the familiar Bentley with its windows separating the view of people from the outside.
