Mysterious him

Met an old friend today,
He's either sweet or bitter,
He sat with me today,
Talking about nights we remember,
Then he wouldn't go away,
As he told me the mortifying memories,
I tried to walk away,
But I could not stop him,
He pulled at my thoughts,
And told me something sweet,
I smiled as I remembered,
Then he told me something devastating,
I felt my heart yearn with misery,
Then he talked about something someone has done to me,
Oh the fury ran to my head,
I tried to let him go,
But he simply stayed reminding me of everything,
You see his name is Past,
All monsters lie in our head and even though I come to realize he is a part of me,
Both bitter and sweet,
I learned that I have to accept him,
He is an everlasting part of me,
And with that,
Past slowly drained his way into my veins,
No longer in my head,
Where I dreaded Past the most.
