"What baby? Don't make me laugh!"

"I'm not kidding! I am actually looking after a baby right now, which is why I can't come to work."

I pulled my phone away from my ear due to her loud ugly cackling. I had been trying to convince her for the last five minute the reason why I was unable to go to work. She still didn't believe me, maybe because this was my first time not going to work when I was supposed to. Anyone who was familiar with me knew how much of a workaholic I was. Some even dared to say that I should seek help.

"Hold up. Let me check if pigs are flying," I could hear her shuffling about, "Nope, the sky is clear."

I let out a heavy sigh when the baby began crying. I lowered my phone towards the baby so that she could hear the cries.

"Is this evidence good enough for you?"

"Oh wow. Well alright then whatever. I'll check up on you after work."

"Tell boss that I'm sick. I don't want any rumours flying around."

"Okie dokie, I got it. Be safe and follow the law!"

I couldn't help but let out a laugh at what she said. It brought back memories from university when we had this one teacher who always repeated that same quote every single class. It made us students sick and tired of hearing it all the time. But now it was funny.

Once our conversation ended, I chucked my phone onto the sofa and started cradling the baby. I sat down and continued to feed him with the bottle that was now half finished.

An hour had passed since I was sent out of his house with the baby. Why did I listen to him? I had never interacted with my neighbours and I didn't understand why I was being such a nice person out of the blue. It's not like we had a friendly relationship for me to be saving his ass when his mother arrived.

There was no way I was going to continue helping him out, especially since it wouldn't benefit me. I couldn't let something like that affect my perfect work attendance. Well it was too late for that now, but I didn't want my attendance to further deteriorate.

That's right! You know what? Who am I to be getting involved in other people's business? I shouldn't be dragged into this stranger's personal affairs! It's not my problem.

I rose from the sofa, a crying baby in one arm and the bottle in the other. I strode out of my living room and made my way towards the front door. I had been motivated to stand up for my rights.

I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, my hair was in a mess and I still had my cow-printed pyjamas on. I always stressed the importance of looking smart but in that moment of time, it was the last thing I cared about.

Once I was out, I took a few steps to the left and knocked on his door. When he didn't reply, I impatiently thumped on the door again.

"JIMIN COLLECT YOUR-"

The door opened slightly and he poked his head out. The sight of me caused his eyes to widen in shock.

"What are you doing? My mother is in here," he hissed, angrily.

I didn't care who was in there, I just wanted to get out of the situation. This was his problem and he should've dealt with it on his own.

"Who is that, son?"

At the sound of his mother approaching, he tried to close the door on my face. But I didn't let him win so easily. I pushed the door in, catching him off guard.

I met eyes with the woman. Her straight black hair was cut into a short bob and she had milky white skin; I couldn't catch any similarity between her and Jimin. I studied her quizzical expression and quickly spoke before Jimin.

"Hello Jimin's mother. I am Nari, his next-door neighbour-"

"Oh my! So you're the girl!"

My brows furrowed with confusion at her unexpected reaction. Why did she act like she knew me? Did she recognise me? Unless, Jimin said something to her beforehand.

The older woman rushed to my side with an eager smile on her face, as she eyed me and the baby. If she knew who my father was, surely she wouldn't be looking so happy at the sight of me. After all, our two families weren't exactly in good terms in the world of business.

"Jimin mentioned you to me earlier," she said, giving me a wink.

What was that supposed to mean?

I glared at Jimin, giving him an 'explain-yourself' look. I tried to think hard about what he could have said about me. Obviously he couldn't tell her the truth, or else we would've both been in trouble.

"Yes mum. This is Hoseok's girlfriend," he said.

What the- Who the hell is this Hoseok? Unless...Oh God it couldn't be- Why does this world have to be so small?

He simply nodded and smiled, not daring to glance at me. If there wasn't a baby and an old woman in the room, I would've been swearing the life out of me. I tried not to glare so much in the presence of his mother, but I couldn't hide my anger that was dangerously increasing by the second.

"But whose baby is this?"

I was about to spill the truth but it was too late. He spoke before I could even utter a sound.

I had lost control of the situation to the hands of Jimin. I didn't have to think hard to know that him having control of this situation was going to be messy and confusing.

I had come here to return back his problem. But instead the only thing that happened was that I was dragged in too deep for me to even climb out of it myself.

I must have some bad karma to be getting into a situation like this when I was only at the peak of my career. Just when everything was starting to settle down and go things my way, this Jimin guy had to ruin everything.
