"Noo, what are you doing?"
Nari picked up a hair band and proceeded to do her everyday low bun hairstyle.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" she fired back, looking at Heejung's annoyed expression on the mirror.
Heejung ate one last crisp and licked her fingers before tossing the empty packet in the bin. She then stood next to her friend in front of the mirror, inspecting her poor choice of hairstyle.
"You aren't going to work, my dear stubborn friend." Heejung hooked her thumb under Nari's hair band and pulled it out of her hair.
Before her hair could fall down her back, Nari grabbed her hand to stop her. "Hey! You didn't even wash your hands after eating those cheesy crisps."
"Stop being so difficult! You need to let your mane breathe, it suffocates in that bun you always have. And I licked my fingers so there are no cheesy bits in your hair." Heejung pulled the hair band one last time, allowing her dark hair to cascade down her back.
Nari frowned at her friend's reflection as she let her fix her hair. A night that was supposed to be just for Nari and Hoseok, Heejung had taken way too much interest in their date. She was basically doing everything for Nari; from choosing the outfit to makeup, the only thing she wasn't doing was going to the date for her.
"There you go! Now you look much friendlier and casual," complimented Heejung, clapping and then giving Nari a hug.
Nari ran a hand through her hair, it definitely felt a little weird for her to let her hair down when going out because it wasn't something she did often. Her wish to always look smart and professional wasn't something she was able to fulfil that night. Thanks to Heejung, who kept going on about how dressing to go to work was not the same as preparing for a date.
"I literally have ten minutes left until I meet Hoseok outside," said Nari, quickly grabbing her coat and scarf. She tried to reach across the bed to grab her purse but Heejung beat her to it.
"No no, he asked you out so he is paying," she said, giving her a sly wink.
"I'm paying for my own food thank you very much, now give me my purse!" Nari tried to snatch away her purse. However, being only five feet tall, she was severely disadvantaged next to her model-like friend.
"Tell him you will treat him next time. That's how you get things progressing in the relationship!" shouted Heejung, running out of the bedroom. "You better get going, or else you will be late!"
Finally giving up, Nari let out a sigh before shuffling out of the room. She slipped her feet into a pair of flat shoes and grabbed her door keys. Before leaving, Heejung smacked her bottom, causing Nari to whip her head around.
Heejung winked at her. "Just for good luck."
The two friends laughed as they stumbled out of her apartment.
It wasn't hard to find Hoseok since he was sitting on the bench right in front of her apartment complex. She nervously walked towards him, trying to think of a good conversation starter. At the sound of her approaching, Hoseok looked up and lifted a hand to give her an energetic wave.
"I hope you weren't waiting too long."
He jumped up from the bench and stuffed his hands in his jacket pockets. "You have no idea. I thought you were going to ditch me!" he joked., "Nahh, I only just came too."
She chuckled as she wrapped her scarf around her neck. "No way would I ditch fried chicken!"
He let out a dramatic gasp, covering his mouth with his hand. "So you only came out for the chicken?"
