Nari put the pen down and began exercising her hand muscles, after doing work for the last two hours none stop, her body had finally had enough.
She had began working to keep her mind occupied. All she could think about was Jimin, for reasons she could not understand. She kept trying to convince herself that she was only curious as to if he ever attended his sessions after their argument.
Nari finally began to realise just how annoying her blunt personality was because as much as she wanted to, she couldn't lie to herself. No matter how many reasons she thought of to justify why she kept thinking about him, she knew none of them were the valid answer. That only caused further frustration within her.
Her phone rang and lazily she picked it up from her bed. Her eyebrows furrowed as she read the caller ID. It was strange for her to call as they hadn't talked in a while now.
"Hello, Nari? This is you right?"
"Yeah, it's me. Is there something wrong, Seola?"
"Oh gosh. Do you not know?"
"Know what?"
"Just turn on the news!"
Nari's forehead creased, trying to think hard about what Seola was going on about. Deciding it was best to just do as she says and Nari walked out of her bedroom to switch on the television.
A gasp escaped her lips. The reporter was standing in front of the neighbourhood park. She instantly began contemplating whether it was the park only a few yards from her. Everything looked exactly the same; the trees, the gate, the street. It made her curious as to what this news was about that made Seola call her.
"Are you watching it?"
"What happened though?" Nari thought out loud.
"Other than their homes, this park is where the mother society sometimes gathered for meetings," spoke the news reporter on the TV.
The headlines wrote, 'Drug Business Society Caught'.
"What!" Nari's shout came out a little higher-pitched than usual due to the sheer amount of disbelief that ran through her mind.
"I know! I can't believe they've been caught."
She closed her eyes and massaged her temples to allow herself to think. She couldn't calculate the news in her head because it simply made no sense to her at all.
"Honestly, I don't get it." A loud sigh escaped her lips as she slid down on her couch.
"The mother society have been illegally selling drugs to wealthy housewives in the area. And as soon as I found out, I left them. This is why I told you they are up to no good."
"Why didn't you tell me the specifics?"
"I warned you but couldn't tell you the details because they were blackmailing me. You haven't done anything with them, right?"
Nari opened her mouth to say no but only then did she remember the money she had carelessly given to them. This whole time she had convinced herself that the money was going somewhere good but in fact, what she had actually done was fund a drug business. Great. She wondered why her good deeds always managed to bite her ass back.
I swear good things happen to people who do kind things? Why does this principle not apply to me?
"Nari?" Seola asked again.
"I...No I haven't done anything," She lied. Seola let out a loud sigh of relief.
Just then someone knocked on the door. It took a few seconds for Nari to register the sound and when she did, her heart sank. She couldn't help but wonder if it was the police already here to collect her ass and dump her behind bars. She began recalling every single drug law clauses that she could think of as her lawyer instincts kicked in. Whilst taking slow steps towards her door, she began to arrange her plea of innocence in her mind.
