The rest of the week went on as normal. I went to work, and did the job that I was created to do. Every day that I go to work I get to play music and sing, but my favorite part is meeting all the kids that come in the door. I love watching all the different kids' reactions to the different kinds of music.
Tomorrow is going to be special, I meet Nathan for our first session. I'm so excited to try out all kinds of music, and I hope he likes me. Thinking about Nathan reminded me that on the way home from work I need to stop at Costco, and pick up some more orange juice. I looked up at the clock and it read 4:30, I had 30 minutes until I could clock out. I pulled out his file and decided to give it another look before our session tomorrow. Just as I got up to get the file from the cabinet, my phone rang.
"Hello, Rachael's speaking, how may I help you?"
"How may I help you?" I hear a mock on the other side of the line.
"Yeah yeah yeah, what do you want?" I say sassily.
"We are out of milk and coffee creamer." Olivia says, I can imagine her standing in front of the open fridge, examining what is inside.
"Alright I can stop at Costco on the way home. Is there anything else we need?" I ask her
"Ummm, dinner? I don't feel like cooking." She laughs, and I roll my eyes.
"What are you in the mood for?" I ask
"Mashed potatoes! Ohh, and Seafood Alfredo!" She sounds super excited.
"So I'll stop at the store and pick up To Go at Olive Garden." I laugh at her.
"Perfect. Now, go get to work, it's almost time to come home. I love you." She says softly into the phone.
"You got it dude, I love you, see you soon." The line goes dead and I hang up the phone.
I look up at the clock I have ten minutes. I quickly read through Nathan's file one more time, and plan out what I want to set out for tomorrow's session. I quickly clean up all my papers and put them back in Nathan's file, then clean up the rest of my office before clocking out. I rush out to my car and text Olivia that I was heading out to Costco. As I drive down the newly widened road, I roll down the window and let the wind whirl through my hair and my car. I turn up the radio and let it play, not even caring about how many looks I got from the people around me.
I pull into the Costco parking lot, park, and check my phone, of course Olivia had texted me a shopping list, she knew that I would end up forgetting something. I walk through the store and resist all of the free samples that are laid out around the food. I grab the orange juice, milk, and French Vanilla coffee creamer.
After I pay, I pack everything into the car and call Olive Garden to place my order, so it's ready for when I get there. The drive seems longer than usual, especially when you're hungry. I seemed to hit every single red light on the way there. When I got there the food was just about to be packed up, so I started walking around the bar area. I looked over across the restaurant and I saw Nathan and Elizabeth eating dinner. She was holding his hand and smiling, he was laughing. The sight of it made me smile. I heard my name being called, I grabbed my food and headed for home. Olivia is sure to be anxiously waiting by now.
When I got home instead of getting a hug, I got help with getting food to the dining room. Well, it was more like she said hello to the food before me. I she her run down the hall and disappear into the dining room with the food in her hand. I put the groceries in the kitchen, then pour Olivia and I some lemonade before I sat down at the table to eat. Of course she had everything set out in their plastic containers, with a candle lit. This is our kind of romantic dinner.
"Well this looks fancy." I say when I walk in with the lemonade.
"Yeah, oh and hey." She smiles at me, and walks over to hug me.
"Oh we're you talking to me or the food." I nudge her with my elbow, and she laughs at me sarcastically.
"You of course." She smiled, and sat down.
We started in on our meal, there's not a lot of talking when we eat seafood dish, it's too complicated of a dish to eat and talk. Somehow whenever we eat, we can't eat and talk because it ends up getting everywhere. When we're halfway through the dinner we allow ourselves to talk without making a mess.
"How was your day love?" She starts the Dinner conversations, and takes a sip of her lemonade.
"It was pretty good." I paused. "How was your day?" I asked her.
"It was pretty good, I didn't really do that much, I was actually pretty productive, I designed a couple different rooms today, and I got two more fabric sample books, and a new art deco magazine. The most interesting part of the day was trying to plan more for our trip!" She got really excited.
"Oh sounds like a fun day. Any new developments on the trip then?" Now I'm excited.
"I found a really cute bed and breakfast right by the river, and the owner said she would give us a discount if we let her take us around town. So I said why not, she seemed really nice on the phone. And she is giving us two hot tub tokens instead of one." She chuckled.
"Great, so we're taking discount offers from old ladies who want to show us around town now are we?"
"What? It'll be fun! An adventure within an adventure!" We both laughed.
For the rest of Dinner we just ate in silence. But not the awkward silence where you don't know what to say, but the silence where you just look at each other, maybe making a silly face, but just really taking in what you have. Looking at each other and thinking 'wow I'm so lucky to have you', and really appreciating what you have around you. I stood up and plugged my phone into the speaker on a side table by the window. I played the song All About Us by He is We and Owl City. I walked over to her and bent down to take her hand. She smiled and took it. I spun her around the open part of dining room, holding her close leading her through the soft dance of our perfect evening. Our bodies moved in perfect harmony. We swayed to the music, we swung to the music, we lightly sung to the music. It was a beautiful moment, in a special home, with the most special girl. Her eyes sparkled as she spun around in the low light of the room, the ambiance was calm, collected, and carefree. When the song came to an end I dipped her, then kissed her soft tender lips that has been holding a smile all night. She curtsied and I bowed to her. Then we both laughed.
After dinner we cleaned up the house a bit, took a shower, and got into bed. We watched a couple episodes of Switched at Birth before feeling tired enough to sleep. She rolled over and grabbed my hand, and placed it on her back, indicating that she wanted me to rub her back. I rubbed her back for a while until we both we're just too tired to be awake any longer. She rolled over and kissed me.
"I love you so much." She whispered sweetly.
"I love you so much" I whispered back.
"Goodnight, sweet dreams." She smiled at me.
"Goodnight angel, sweet dreams." I rubbed her forehead with my thumb, brushing some hair away before kissing it. She rolled over and pulled me close. Tonight she is the little spoon, tonight I get to just hold her, and tonight she drifts to sleep knowing that she is safe in my arms.
