I was watching TV when it happened... that summer day had been the worst, when my parents died. I had been flipping through the channels when I got to the news, and there it was... the white silver Kia, laying on it's side with a birthday box lying beside it, my birthday box.

"That's the last of it," Grammy said with a smile. I knew she was trying to cheer me up, but how could I possibly be happy, after the ones I loved the most died. "How 'bout we go 'n get some sherbet after we get settled in, there's an ice cream parlor in town." I didn't reply, all I said was "humph" and that was it. My grandma got in the car and I got in the other seat, right next to her in her old truck, then we set off. It was a long way from Chicago to Louisiana, but we couldn't offered flying a plane for the both of us... plus I packed quite a bit. It had been at least ten hours when my grandma told me to move to the back of the truck and try to get some sleep... so I did what I was told.
