As we walking to her class, I kept glancing down at her. She kept squirming around and looking flustered. It had me worried, "Sena, what's the matter with you? You've been walking like that for a while," She looked up at me with a look of worry in her face, "E-Ed, have you ever been bullied before?"
"Yeah, a lot actually, back at the orphanage... I was usually ganged up on and beaten. Left to lay unconscious on the pavement nearly everyday," It was then it clicked to me. I turned to Sena and spoke to her in a serious tone, "Are you being bullied?" She just turns away from my gaze. That gave it away, my blood began to boil as the seconds went by, "Who are they?"
"Huh?" I put my hand on her shoulders and repeat, "Who. Are. They?" She then says, with her voice cracking, "They're a group of boys that pick on me. They pull my hair, and throw stuff at me. They call me names and such... I hate going to this period!" With the most emotion she has ever shown me, I couldn't help, but feel obligated to do something. It was then I whispered in her ear, "Tell me who they are after school, and I'll make sure they don't pick on you ever again."
She looks at me, with tears building in her eyes, "W-Why are you doing so much for me?" I just pat her head and stand up, "Because, I'm your big brother. It's my job," A tear falls from her eye, "C'mon, don't cry like that, you're not in middle school anymore. You know, why don't you switch classes. I'll come with you," She nods her head in agreement, and I follow her to the counselor office. On the way there, we make small talk, "Won't you be late to class?"
"I'll ask for a late slip, although, Kat and Lily will more than likely be mad, but whatever," Sena chuckles lightly at my comment, "I think Kat would be even more mad than Lily. But still, why do you have to some with me? You have no reason to."
"I guess it's instinct. I picked up a lot while I was at the orphanage," She avoided my gaze everytime I tried to look at her, "Are you nervous about walking with me. It's nothing bad, Kat and Lily walk with me all the time. Why don't you like me?"
She says, while still avoiding my gaze, "Well, it's more so from experience as well. Even before I was adopted, I was picked on by boys. I guess it's more of a fear factor more than anything. Back at my orphanage, I would always be picked on. Mostly because of my hair color... I felt unwanted, but a boy that was older than me took up for me," She paused for a second, then continued, "He protected me everyday, he would eat with me, play with me and sometimes even sleep with me."
"That's seems like something I used to do before as well. Sometimes, people have natural instincts to protect others that can't protect themselves. That's why I do what I do, even if it means I have to do something crazy," She finally looked up to meet my gaze then smiled, "Don't do anything too crazy, or our sisters will be mad at you. You stupid pervert..."
"What's with that insult *sigh* whatever. C'mon, let's hurry this up," We headed inside the office and I was met with a familiar face, "Oh, it's the chump and his little sister," It was the son of the principal, David Lowery, "I find it best you step off before I break your arm this time..."
He just stepped back defensively, "Whatever, get out of my way," He purposely bumps into me as he left, "Tch, stupid asshole... well, go on, or do you want me to go in with you?" She hesitates slightly then answers, "I think you should go in with me. It'll be better if you went in there with me," I nod and open the door for her.
We entered and we were met with a group of boys and an older woman. When we saw this, Sena moved behind my back, "Um, Ms.King, my sister would like to ask something. But if you're busy, we can come back at the end of the day," Sena tugged on my jacket and I turned to her, "What's up?"
She pulls me down to her height and whispers in my ear, "Those are the boys that pick on me," I turn towards them and nod slightly. The counselor then answered my question, "Actually, they were just about to leave. It'll be fine."
I nod my as we waited for the boys to leave. As they left, I saw them shoot a glare at Sena, whom instantly hung onto me tighter. Once they left, I patted her head, "Don't worry, they're gone. Go on, tell her what you need. I'll be right here if you need me," Nodding in agreement, she goes to talk to the counselor.
"Yes Ms.Lucifer, what do you need?" Ms.King asks in a very caring way. But Sena was nervous. It was obvious that she was too embarrassed to tell her what she needed. So I stepped up, "Um, may I intervene? She would like to change her second period class."
"Why would she want that?" I just scratch my head and answer, "You see, she's been bullied in that class and she was hoping to switch from that class to another one. Would that be alright?" The counselor looks at Sena, who is avoiding the stare of both Ms.King and I, "I see no harm. As long as she can get away from her bullies, then I'll do it. You can head there as soon as we're done here."
Ms.King then looks at me, "You can head to class now if you'd like," I shook my head and answered, "No, I'm going to walk her to her new class afterwards. You never know if those delinquents will try to cut her off on her way there," Ms.King just chuckled and nodded her head.
Once that whole ordeal was completed, we were off to her new class, "Oh wow, your new class is right beside mine. You may be able to walk to class with us then."
I tried to make small talk either her, but she just ignored me, "*Sigh* What's up now? You were talking to just fine a few moments ago. What's bugging you now?" She takes a while to answer, but she finally does, "I'm nervous. This is a new class, I won't know many people in the class."
"Ah, I see, but you don't know who is in the class yet. You never know, you may meet people that are great friends and then you'll be fine," She finally returns my gaze and chuckles, "Why do you have to be so nice all the time. Whatever, well, see you tomorrow I guess."
"Actually, I'll be coming home from work early. We need to have a... sibling meeting today," She raises an eyebrow at my statement, "Meeting? For what?"
"For something, you'll know ehn we have it," I wave off into her classroom and I see her hand the teacher her new schedule. I just smile and head back to my classroom, where I hand my teacher a note on why I was late. I take my seat beside Lily and she whispers to me, "Where were you? I was worried..."
I just pat her hand and say, "Just handling some business for one of our siblings," At first she's confused, but then she just smiles as we continue on with class. Now, I gotta know what my homeroom teacher needs.
