Rehabilitation Center
~Beep… Beep…~ The entrance door ringer went off when I enter the front down. The lights were bright; the air seemed cold and still. As I walked in the Rehab building, I felt like everyone eyes were focused on me. As I made my way to the front desk, the lady at the front desk had her head down.
I walked up to the clerk and said, “Excuse me.” The clerk head jump up like a head on a wack a mole.
“Sorry sir, I was sending a tweet but would you like to admit yourself today?” The clerk said nicely and then smiled.
“No no no, I’m here to pick up my brother he’s suppose to be released today.” I proclaimed to clear the air.
“Sorry sir, I'm on autopilot and just asking out of routine.” The clerk explained with a smile.
“Its no problem don’t worry wait… do I look like an addict?” I asked with my most enquiring face.
“Ha-ha, yeah I’ve been working here for about 2 years and the voluntary admissions still surprise me till this day. So that’s a broad question to ask but how may I help you today.” The clerk let out an obnoxiouslaugh when she seen my serious face.
“Yeah I guess you’re right, well my brother Travis Jenkins is due for release today and I'm here to retrieve him.” I responded feeling like a complete douche bag for asking that question.
“Ooooooookay let me check the system.” The clerk answered while holding the “O” in okay.
I turned my back to the computer and the clerk, stilling feeling embarrassed. I felt like one of those conceited self-absorbed guys on the football team, back in my High School days. (That was really thoughtless of me to say, maybe I should apologize) Looking around the Rehabilitation Center, I was mesmerized. It was extremely sanitary; the walls were all painted snow white; the tiles were marble and seemed to be recently waxed; and surprisingly it was obtrusively clean. Well my stereotype for Rehab Centers were that it was filthy and vulgar because of the clients were having withdraws from drugs. –Shaking My Head- I have watched too many Hollywood movies that portray them this way, I'm the victim.
“Sir, what was the name of your brother again?” The clerk asked again.
“Oh, his name is Travis Jenkins” I turned around saying loud and clear so she can be sure what I said.
“Ooooooookay well it said here that you brother has already have been sign out.” The clerk said with a sarcastic voice.
“Really? And who signed my brother out, it better not be that idiot Danny.” I said worried that it was true.
Danny was a corny white boy, very; extremely; embarrassingly skinny white boy. He was 5’8 and if I had to put a number on it, I would say he was 100 lbs with rock in his pocket. He was that corny white boy you seen on the news; movies or in some cases you read in books that was getting bullied. And that was his case precisely, he was getting bullied and he got tired of it. So he stole his dad gun to scare the bully away when he was a senior in High School. The bully was Rikishi big; in fact one of his arms weighted 100 lbs. One day when Danny came to school Rikishi demanded that Danny gave him his lunch money. Danny replied with “No fat ass, why don’t you go your not taking my money to buy some soda. Go drink some bleach fat ass.” In the distance, Rikishi heard people laughing at what Danny said. This immediately formed a crowd. Rikishi was embarrassed and incensed, like one of those Bulls in Bullfighting. Rikishi quickly closed the space between Danny and himself, so no one had time to stop the fight. Danny notice what Rikishi was doing, so he pulled out the gun with a shaky hand. Rikishi simply grabbed the gun and Danny accidentally shot Rikishi. I'm not into politics but somehow with right money. Danny got Six weeks in a holding cell and came out a gangster. It wasn’t hard to establish a fan base sponsored by his parents. Danny begins to sell drugs and he became Dan The Man.
“Ooooooone Second………. It seems like he signed himself out sir.” The clerk said holding on the “O” once again.
“Why would you guys…” I released a deep exhale of air out, to hide some of the anger. “Okay, why would you guys let him sign himself out of Rehab.” I asked after I calm down a little.
“Wwwale sir, this is a self admitting Rehabilitation Center. The patients can come and go as they please.” The clerk said sounding more sarcastic this time around.
“WELL, injudicious women can you uncover what time he absconded this facility.” I countered.
“What?” she said sticking her head out snapping it a little to the left with the most confused look on her face.
“Can you tell me what time he signed out Ma’Damn?” I said with the depressed look on my face. (Well that’s our future, as soon as Aryanna is potty trained. Next thing is teaching her how to read; write etc. This is extremely sad.)
“Wwwale it says here, he left about 30 minutes ago.” The clerk answered as she started to scratch her hand.
“Thank you Ma’Damn, and stay in school please.” I begged as I made my way to exit from the desk. While I was walking toward the front door, I heard the clerk respond and started laughing. “Ain’t nobody got time for that.” I shook my head and kept walking to the front door. (I wish you did young lady, I wish you did.)
