Phil was worried, the night didn't turn out as he expected to say the least and after Dan pushed him out of the apartment he couldn't help but stay outside the door with his ear glued closely to the door, listening intently to the sound coming from the apartment.
He couldn't help but worry though, he had no idea if that kind of thing has ever happened before, not only did Dan not like talking about his family but Phil knew for sure he would have never told him about something like that out of his own free will, Phil knew Dan hated people feeling sorry for him and showing any kind of vulnerability was not something he liked doing, in fact he despised the mere thought of that.
So you could understand why Phil stood in the corridor in front of the door where his Dan was, thinking about what he is experiencing, is his dad hurting him? Is he hurting himself? Is he crying? Is he scared? Phil was scared, he was scared at the thought of his boyfriend getting hurt with only a door separating them while he had nothing to do about the situation.
The next twenty minutes went by quietly and Phil stayed worried, because in this case quite wasn't necessarily a good thing, maybe it was quite because he was hurt so bad he couldn't even make a sound? Or maybe the door and walls were too thick to even hear anything through them, and in that case Dan could be getting severely hurt right at that second and Phil had no way of knowing at all. But right as that thought crossed his mind he heard a soft humming noise coming from the apartment and smiled a weak smile, Dan was humming along to a song, which Phil hoped meant he was alright. Phil then heard some china clinking and the sound of the faucet running and guessed Dan was doing the dishes, which made him exhale a sigh of relief, Dan was safe, well, safe-ish, but that's the best Phil could hope for considering the circumstances.
He waited until he heard something that sounded like the kitchen cabinet closing and than a door clicking open then shut, and although he feared it was Dan's dad coming out of his office to hurt his Dan and was fully prepared to bust the door open and save him like someone should of done a long time ago, the quite that followed proved it was Dan's door and that he was now in the privacy of his own room, which should of meant Phil could now relax, but it didn't, because all it meant to Phil was that he could no longer hear what Dan was doing and that he couldn't protect him, Dan could be hurting himself and Phil would have no way of knowing.
So, after staying a few extra minutes, hoping he would catch some kind of sound from the sealed shut door, he groaned, rubbed the heels of his hands on his eyes that were suddenly feeling heavy and tired and turned to the stairs, he'll talk to Dan tomorrow, he'll explain everything, and everything would be fine. But even Phil himself knew that was a lie.
The heels of Phil's heavy, black boots clanked loudly as he walked down the apartment building stairs, the sound echoing around him in the eerily quite building, when he came in he took the elevator, but he was now too lost in thought and wanted to take the stairs.
He thought about Dan's life before and about his life now, and about how different their lives are. Dan wasn't accept by anyone he knew while Phil was easily accepted by basically everyone he knew.
When Phil came out to his family it was during dinner, he was nervous because he didn't really know his family's stands on the topic of LGBT since it never seemed to come up. But when he finely said the words "I am gay" and heard his mother's respond which was "that's nice dear, would you pass me the salt?" He was unbelievably relived and had a feeling it was all going to be alright, his feelings were confirmed when the only difference about the way his brother and father treated him was that his dad always asked him when is he going to bring home a nice young man and when is he going to see some grandkids and his brother would always tease him about boys instead of girls.
Phil did not take his family's good reaction for granted, in fact ever since he met Dan it just made him appreciate it even more.
And still, as Phil's feet exited the glass door and his body shivered a bit at the chilly breeze of the London evening, his mind could not stop comparing dans life and experiences to his friends' lives, in hopes of relating and understanding the chocolate haired boy more easily. Unfortunately , the only person that came to mind was Matthew and if there was one person Phil didn't like thinking about was Matthew, because even though it had been three years since the incident Phil still despised it when his mind would wonder to the boy. The worst thing was, that ever since he met Dan his mind would drift back to those Matthew thoughts he hated so much and he would be once again dragged back to that awful place where- he was snapped out of his thoughts when his body suddenly collided with another and an acute pain shot through his side.
"Sorry" he mumbled, his mind still hazy and foggy with Matthew/Dan thoughts as he offered a hand to the bright red headed girl that laid on the pavement before him "nah, it's my fault I'm so clumsy all the time, my friend always tell me 'Samantha watch were you're going', 'Samantha stop day dreaming all the time', 'Sama-" the girl-Samantha bubbled as she held on to Phil's hand and pulled herself up, dusting herself off with her other hand, suddenly, her rumbling stopped and she looked at Phil with dumbfounded eyes "holy fuck" he whispered to herself, but still loud enough for Phil to hear, she quickly clapped her hands over her mouth "oh my god, I'm so sorry, I know how much you hate cussing, Phil"
Phil gave her a confused look, trying to remember where he knew her from, because she obviously knew him but before he could even open his mouth Samantha started talking again "I've been watchin' your channel for years, you're my favorite youtuber, my friends will never believe I met you. Can I get a quick selfie, I'm sorry if I'm bothering you"
Phil smiled at her, of course, that's how she knew him, she was a subscriber, sometimes it amazed Phil how often he forgot he was considered "famous", but now he couldn't blame him self, he always tended to forget things when thinking about Matthew.
And although, yes she was kind of bothering him, but only because he was in a different head space after the rough evening he had, he decided to suck it up, like he always did, he owed so much to his subscribers, more then he would ever be able to repay and so, he would always try and make the best out of meeting them, he wanted to get to know them, when he was with a subscriber his personal life didn't matter, the only thing that mattered was the person that stood before him at that moment.
"No, really it's okay, you are defiantly not bothering me in any shape or form, believe me"
Samantha smiled at him excitedly "I knew you were a genuinely nice person".
Phil chuckled in a tone that to Samantha was so hot, and she couldn't help but think about how he's not even trying and how his voice is so much deeper in real life and- "I don't know about that" he said.
Samantha giggled "yes you are".
they then spoke for about ten minutes, while sitting on a near by bench, Phil learned a lot about her and listened to her stories with genuine curiosity, one of the many benefits of being a youtuber is that you get to meet a lot of people from different places around the world with different back stories which was, if you asked Phil, one of the greatest gifts he could of gotten. For him it was like traveling around the globe without even leaving London.
Eventually though, Samantha said she had to go because it was getting late and her parents would start worrying, Phil was a bit disappointed because she really seemed like a good human being and he enjoyed their conversation but he was used to it, since, luckily for him, most of his fans were like that.
And so they took some Pictures, and Phil followed her on some social medias, hugged her one last time and they each went their own paths.
When Phil reached his flat, he fumbled with the key as he opened the door and when it finally gave in he walked into his apartment which suddenly felt lonely, he wished he could have brought Dan to his place, especially now, that he didn't know how safe Dan was at home with his dad.
Phil felt extremely overprotective of Dan, obviously now it was justified but ever since he got to know Dan he has had this extreme need to protect the lovely boy at all costs.
Although Phil was always a very jealous, protective person when it came to relationships, for some reason with Dan it was just much, much stronger, maybe it was because of how rough his background and life had been or maybe it's because he has just had much stronger feelings to the boy then any of his old boyfriends.
He felt like they clicked so great together from the start, which could explain why he felt and acted the way he did and also why no matter how awful the stories Dan told him were, he would never dream of leaving him.
Now he just needed to prove to Dan he was there to stay, the poor boy was not used to people treating him as he deserved and Phil pledged he would show the beautiful creature how humans really are supposed to act.
