I could feel the tightness in my throat increasing as the door loomed ahead of me and my name was called out by the man behind the desk. I suppose this was my chance despite it being unexpected. I knocked on the door with false confidence, I cleared my throat as I was called in.
"Good morning Frank, take the seat in front of me please." I could feel the cold sweats starting to begin, this job offer didn't come often. I walked forward and walked straight past the chair to the man behind the desk.
"Good morning to you too Mr Taylor." I smiled brightly and held my hand out for him to take. We firmly shook hands before I turned on my heel and strode back to the chair behind me.
"Now Frank, I understand you are here for the role of lead photographer and an extended contract with us. Is this so?" I kept cool eye contact and smiled at him while he was speaking, I was only deterred slightly when he actually said the role aloud. The placement would be such a huge personally success, I felt my hands shake as I held them together in my lap. After five years of working for Stump and Wentz the role of lead photographer had finally become open. This did not happen everyday. It would mean that I would be the on call photographer and always have the big shoots, my contract would also be renewed and I would receive a raise. It wouldn't just be a bonus for me but also for Ray, it would mean so much to the both of us.
"Yes, that is so Sir." I smiled again and replied with a steady voice. He nodded his head and I watched as he begin to flick through my portfolio of photographs that I deemed acceptable to be presented.
"Tell me about yourself." And there was the dreaded question. I never knew how to answer this one without it sounding exactly the same as the typical response.
"Well, I am a very ambitious person and I feel that even the smallest of tasks should be dealt with the greatest attention. I love what I do and feel very strongly about it. I also love to play the guitar as a hobby and I do sing a bit but not very well." I paused and took a breath. "I'm honest and hard working and I am yet to be late to any of my photoshoots." I finished with a small laugh and smiled again.
"Now you must understand, this role is a big one. What can you offer to it?" He inquired, folding his arms on the table.
"I have been with the company for five years so I know its procedures well enough by now. I am very hard working and even if I do say so myself, I know my way around a camera well. I offer a fresh, diverse outlook on all of my shoots and I put a little bit of me into each of them as cheesy as that sounds." I spoke steadily and held eye contact.
"Well Frank, I must say I am very pleased. I will give you a ring about my final decision as soon as I have come to one." He rose from his chair and I followed suit. I walked to his desk and shook his hand again.
"Thank you Sir." He nodded his head and I left the room. I strode out the building with a small impulse of urgency, stepped into my car and drove straight to Gerard's. Bolting up the steps, I knocked on the door loudly.
"So? How did it go then?" I was sprawled out with my head on Gerard's lap in the middle of his living room floor. His hands were in my hair, tugging gently on the strands in a comforting way as I stared up at his ceiling.
"It went well! At least I think it did. I suppose we'll find out sooner or later won't we?" I sighed and looked up at Gerard. "You look funny from this angle." I let out a small laugh and reached up to touch his cheek.
"Well you're not too hot from up here either. I'm sure you'll get it babe, they'd be crazy to not give it to you after all the work you've done for them." He leaned done and placed a fleeting kiss on my lips.
"Gerard, aren't you supposed to be at work? Doing what normal models do? Actually working?" I laughed and sat up, leaning my body weight on him and stretching my legs out in front of us.
"I'm on a break okay?" He whined and pouted. I laughed and kissed him, enjoying the warmth of our two lips moving together and the feeling that pooled in my stomach. He pulled away too soon for my liking and I heard groan escape my mouth. "Frank, would you want to move in with me? I mean you basically live here already the amount of time you spend here and I guess it wouldn't be so bad having you around." Well that was unexpected. I couldn't see his expression as he had turned his face away from me at the start of the sentence.
"Wow Gerard, that's unexpected but I can't say its an all together unpleasant notion. Are you just saying it for the sake of saying it?" I cupped his face with my hand, bringing it to face my own. His face was blank and steely.
"No, I'm not just saying it. I want to wake up next to you. For you to be here when I get in and for me to be here for you. I want to be like a normal couple and most importantly I want to be with you." I looked into his eyes as the words came tumbling out of his mouth caressed in love. I didn't reply, I simply lent in and kissed him. It was a slow kiss, one full with understanding and the promise of something worth while.
"Of course I will Gee, I want to keep my place though at the moment." He nodded his head and beamed at me, a cute little smile that portrayed pure glee. I copied his smile and launched myself at him, hugging him around the waist until he toppled over onto his back. I could feel his chest vibrate as he laughed and said my name in a way in which I knew would not be said very often. It was something so small yet so special. It made me feel like this really was my home.
