Alexis.
My entire body was throbbing. I had this big ego that I could defeat everyone in a second without getting a scratch on me but holy crap, that Asian girl was good.
But not good enough.I could see the fear in Jason's eyes and even though I was clearly struggling, he could have shot the bitch but, I liked it better when I beat her ass to the ground. Jason and I finally made it back to my dorm building, it was still cold and it was still pretty dark.
I had no way of telling what time it was or if Maggie was still in the building. There was no indication of the surveillance footage that she had left but that was a while ago. Anything could have happened in that short time while I was fighting for my life. She could have left, she could have been killed or she could still be there; safe and sound.
We entered the dark stairwell and ever since we left the main building, I had been wondering why the boss of this whole mission didn't come back with more people. We were there for a while, looking at the footage. My best bet was that he got his people to wait for us downstairs but, why? Why didn't they just jump us when they had the chance? I needed to find out more.
"Alexis," Jason's voice echoed as we went a floor higher from our dorm room, "you need to sit down and rest. You look like you're in pain."
I grunted and open the door to the next hallway. I left the door ajar before entering. I turned to Jason; I could only see his dark figure as I spoke. "We don't have time to rest, I'm fine." I lied, knowing that I was far from fine.
My neck was probably swollen, my limbs hurt all over and I could barely walk straight but I could manage, I was tough and I needed to end this. People were dying because of me; these people wanted me and nobody else. They wanted revenge on my father and to do that, they needed me to finish the job.
"You're obviously not fine," Jason muttered, "you literally just got beaten up."
I rolled my eyes and turned around to head into the dark hallway. My flashlight guided us through the halls as I heard the door creek shut in an echo. I could hear Jason follow closely behind me as I held my gun for protection. All the dorm doors were closed and Jason and I quickly opened each one to see if anyone was inside.
But nobody was in here apart from us.
"Next floor?" Jason asked as we met at the end of the hall. I really didn't want to go up every single floor to see if Maggie was there because we had no idea if she was there or not. I hated not knowing.
I sighed and looked around, wishing things were different. "I don't know, we shouldn't stay in one place for long."
Jason agreed, but I knew he wanted to keep searching. "Why don't I keep looking and you find something that is useful to you."
"No," I instantly said, "we aren't splitting up. I did that with Maggie and now she's gone."
Jason placed his hand on my shoulder and gave me a genuine smile. "I'll be fine. What if Maggie is up there and we leave? You have more skills than I do, you should go and do what you do best."
For once, Jason was being smart and I actually agreed with him. "Okay, I'll call my dad and see where he's at."
Jason nodded and pulled me in for a quick goodbye hug before handing me my backpack and disappearing into the stairwell. I checked my gun again, making sure that it was loaded. It was like a sudden urge to make sure bullets were in my gun. I didn't want to come across any surprises and not be prepared. I headed down the stairs and into the cold; I had this sudden urge to check the gym.
I wanted to shoot myself for thinking that. The gym had become my entire life and without it, it felt dull. I took out my phone and dialled my father's number, he picked up within a few seconds of waiting.
