They said my name.
I've always hated that middle name. For me, it never really suited the name Alexis but my mother insisted because it was my grandmother's name. So, as I heard my name echo in the hall I never thought it would sound so wrong.
Everyone was silent. Even Jason was silent and that was very rare. The shooters all gathered around, talking amongst themselves while the rest of the people inside were scared to death. "You're the girl." Jason finally whispered, I glared at him as I figured that part out for myself.
"No shit, Sherlock." I mumbled while bringing my gaze back to the window. A million questions crossed my mind in this moment. What did they want with me? I shook the questions out of my mind for now, hoping for some answers of this messed up situation.
"Okay, so what now?" Jason asked, staring inside, watching his girlfriend. There were so many endless possibilities. We could go in with only one gun, wait until the police arrived or hide until we're found. Unless I knew what they wanted, we're never going to be safe.
"I should probably call my dad, he might know why they want me." I said with a small shrug. What other options did we have that didn't sound stupid? I took out my phone and dialled his number, he picked up in three rings.
"Alexis," he breathed a heavy sigh of relief, "what do you know?"
We continued to hide out, watching and listening for anything new. "Dad, it's not a robbery. They're here for me."
"Alexis, what are you talking about?" He asked, confused out of his mind and to be honest, I was confused too.
I let out a sigh of frustration; I didn't have all the time in the world to explain myself. "They are looking for me. I don't know what for, I don't know who these people are but they want me and they have hostages. Including Norrie and Cam, instead of asking me tonnes of questions; you probably have a better idea of what they want from me."
He cleared his throat and I could hear him typing on a keyboard. "I'm at the office and I've got all my guys looking into it now. Whoever they are, we will find out everything but if they're here for you, you and Jason need to leave the campus. Right now."
I shook my head as the shooters began to scare the hostages; Norrie was hugging into Cam as he looked around the room. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to do some digging of my own." I hung up without another word and I turned to Jason. "Come on, we need to leave and find someplace else."
"No, I don't want to leave Norrie." Jason said in a quiet whisper, his eyes began tearing up as he stared at the love of his life, scared for hers.
I sighed, wanting to drag his ass away from the window. "I understand that but if you don't want to leave Norrie alone in this world, then you need to be alive."
He seemed to understand what I said because he began following me to the back of the hall. "We need to go to the main reception." I began to say as I canvased the entire campus, looking out for any sign of trouble. I took off my backpack and handed it to Jason. "Carry this."
He nodded without complaining and yet, I was surprised. Once I spotted the main building, we both ran across the campus to the opposite side. Nobody seemed to be around and I knew for sure that there were going to be people in this building, looking at the surveillance footage.
It was dark as I opened the see through doors and as I turned my flashlight on, the first thing I noticed was the receptionist dead on her desk. A bullet wound to the head. We approached the desk and I looked around to find anything useful that we could use. "What are we doing in here?" Jason whispered but, it still echoed the corridor leading to the elevators.
