"What do you mean she needs more time?" Jay practically screeched into his phone

"I said it means she needs more time!" Was Natalie's response. They had been going back and forth like this for about fifteen minutes.

"But why? It shouldn't be that hard, she just has to say yes, or no but I really hope she says yes." Jay sighed. This was hopeless. She didn't like him anyway.

"Just give her the time she wants, you never know, she might turn up at any minute and tell you what you've been waiting for."

"Okay."

"Well, I have to go now but I'll talk to you later."

"Bye." Jay pressed the button that ended the call. Yesterday was the day Jay had opened the note, and in Hailee's neat cursive,

Jay, I'm sorry about this but I just need more time to think about this. I know I'm being unfair, and I'm sorry.

After Casey had left with Natalie, Jay had gone back out to get the note, being the creep he was, he would cherish anything that had something to do with Hailee. He smiled at the thought of her.

"Jay?" A women's voice called out.

"Yeah?" Aunt Lexi was home.

"I brought groceries, please come help me with them?"

"Okay." Jay got up off of his bed, and took one last look at his phone before tossing it on his bed. He went downstairs to help Lexi with the groceries.

"Finally." Lexi smiled. She was 38 years old with faded blonde hair, and sunglasses she usually wore on top of her head. Jay thought she looked young for her age.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." Jay said, almost sarcastically. He pulled a pack of beef out of one of the bags and put in in the fridge.

"Oh, it's quite all right." Lexi pulled out peppers and onions and placed them on the counter. "Tomorrow I'm taking you into the city, I have to get some work done and I need you to run some errands for me. I'm sorry but it has to be done."

"No problem." This wasn't the first time Jay had done this, Lexi was a hardworking woman with a demanding job, and Jay knew this, and he would try to help out in whatever ways he could.

"Thank you." She placed a can of peaches in the pantry, and shut the door. Jay gathered the plastic bags in his arms, and put them into another plastic bag to be collected the next Sunday to be recycled.

A new way of recycling was invented earlier that year, it was more reliable, and it was cleaner for the environment. And the man who had thought of it had worked for the company that Jay's father had owned, which Jay would inherit, but on better judgement, was placed under supervision by a board of executives until Jay was old enough to run it himself.

Lexi turned on the stove. She handed Jay an onion, two carrots, and two peppers.

"Chop, please." Jay smiled. He pulled a knife from the block and began chopping. The onion made his eyes water, but he didn't care. He loved to cook, and Lexi was a great teacher. She began boiling the noodles, and she slapped some butter in a pan for the the carrots and other vegetables to sauté in.

Jay mixed together ground ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce, and a little siracha for the sauce. Lexi drained the noodles, and plopped them into the pan, and Jay poured in his mix. Lexi used tongs to mix up the vegetables and noodles into the sauce. After a few minutes, she distributed the meal into two equal portions on two plates. She placed one in front of Jay, and sat down in the front of the other.

Jay picked up his fork, and took a bite. Lexi never ceases to amaze him. The noodles were delectable, and the carrots were crunchy, with just a small kick, thanks to the siracha.

Jay practically shoveled the food into his mouth, and tossed his plate into the sink, after rinsing it.

"Thanks for dinner Lex." Jay smiled at his aunt.

"No problem, and thank you for your help." Lexi began to do the dishes as Jay walked back up to his room to begin his summer ritual of being on his phone for hours before going to bed.

Hey guys!

Thanks for still reading, and I know this chapter was honestly really boring, but it gets better, I promise.

Also, that is an actual recipe for lo mein. Boil angel hair pasta for about three mins, while sauté ing carrots, broccoli, peas, or whatever vegetable you want in some butter.

Mix 1/4 tsp ground ginger with 1 tbs sesame oil and two tbs soy sauce. Add other things if desired. Then just put it all together in a pan, and bam, dinner. I really like them with peanuts, so you might want to try that.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of the book!
