Chapter 7
Kyle and Luke looked at each other and nodded anxiously then looked back at the elf as they stepped in.
The lobby was large, filled with furniture and paintings. The marbled floor seems to shine from the brightness of the delicate chandelier. On top of the grand staircase was symbol hanged there.
It was very simple. A chain like line that forms a circle, and inside of the chained circle was a small simple shaded circle.
The boys looked around curiously and a little awe at the masterpieces, antiques and the structure of the mansion.
Lynx smiled and motioned them to follow. "Why don't we fix your injury then discuss what has happened."
They both followed wordlessly, observing their surroundings, a little tense. They went to the second floor, and passed what it would seem endless hallways to reach their destination. They stopped in front of a big wooden door, and entered.
The elf motioned for them to sit down as he went to retrieve the needed necessities for the injury. The boys complied then looked around the room. It was full of books and maps, there were also sofas, tables, chairs and some beanbags, and it seemed to be the study.
They noticed Lynx returning with medical supplies and began treating Luke's injury, as he sat there warily and anxious. When Lynx was finished, he stood up and removed his weapons, each of them with flourish. He placed them the table near him, a place he could get them in the second he needs them, then he sat at the sofa opposite of the boys. He leaned back as he looked at them, and hummed thoughtfully. "Where should I start?"
Luke drawled sarcastically, slightly irritated. "Oh! May be the beginning? Where most logical people think, unlike you it seems."
Kyle's lips twitched, he coughed hiding his laugh. "What he said, about the beginning part, I mean. Like what were those black...things?"
Lynx rolled his eyes at the sarcasm from Luke, but answered anyway. "To start off, those 'things' are called Orcs. They are a hideous and cruel monsters that enjoys pain and torture of their victims, especially humans. They are carnivorous, though they favor human flesh than all. They lack the ability to think properly, but what they lack in intelligence they made up for their strength and persistence. Though I must say you boys were very lucky, orcs usually travel by groups, Lady Luck must have blessed you for only encountering two of them."
He looked at the boys solemnly, as they paled hearing that how close they were to dying if they met a group of orcs, rather than two.
Kyle let out a ragged breath and nodded slowly. "So...we could have been killed, alright. These orcs-no I mean, are there are others beside orcs?"
Lynx lifted his eyebrow, slightly surprised at how they were handling it but answered. "Yes, there are others. One could say it is divided into two groups: dark and light creatures."
Luke nodded thoughtfully. "I would appreciate it if you would explain that and answer this question; these… groups are they based on the creature's nature if one is evil or not, or just merely a classification of their powers, origins and belief one has?"
Lynx looked at him appraisingly, a sliver of respect can be seen, as he nodded. “As I said there are two groups: The Dark and The Light. Examples of Dark creatures are goblins, trolls, wraiths, chimeras and more; Light creatures are elves, like myself, faeries, myriads, dwarfs and more. And about your questions,” he said as he hummed thoughtfully, “It would be a little of both. There are some creatures that are classified of being a Dark creature like orcs because it is in their nature to be cruel and enjoy miseries of others, and some who are only classified because of their powers and origins. I know a friend of mine who is Dark but has a good and kind heart, so it is merely their choice if they wish how they choose to be, is my opinion.”
