Chapter 13
Kyle smiled slightly. He and Luke just finished their training then went to their own homes. Rather than going home, Kyle went to the park then laid his back at the grass watching the sunset. Kyle let out a contented sigh as his body relaxed, it was still sore at Ein’s kick just before. Thought Ein’s tortu-er training sessions have been grueling, he had to admit that it was paying off. His body was lighter, quicker and stronger; he was also getting more in tune with his instincts. He noticed with no small delight that his attacks were getting more fluid and graceful than ever, and also noticed Luke improvement as well. Their life has more or less returned to normal, except some monster attack here and there.
Kyle closed his eyes, enjoying the tranquil moment, wishing nothing more than this moment would last forever. A faint rustle broke the silence. Kyle shot up, hands at the back gripping the hilt of his sword. Cautiously, he crept toward the noise came from, silently unsheathing the sword. He looked around the tress and found nothing. He was about to give up when he suddenly heard noise behind him. He tensed gripping his sword tightly, preparing to attack. He turned around quickly, ready to strike then stopped. His eyes widened at what he saw. “What the…?”
Ein yawned loudly as she threw herself at the sofa. “I’m beat.”
Xana smiled at her cousin’s action. “You should sleep then.”
“But I’m hungry.”
“Then eat first.”
“But I’m tired!”
“Spare us with your bothersome whining and choose whether to eat or not,” Luke said sitting down.
Ein scowled then stuck her tongue out. “Meanie!”
Lynx drawled in reply. “Such maturity and graceful vocabulary, I’m in awe. Truly.”
Xana chuckled at the exchange then gaze out the window. “What do you think of them?”
The two quieted with a thoughtful look. Ein started. “They have potential, especially Kyle. I like them, they’re good kids.”
Lynx nodded. “I agree, We can trust them. But…” the cousins looked at him curiously then he continued, “It is a little disconcerting at how fast Kyle improved.”
“Isn’t that a good thing?” Xana inquired.
“Technically yes, but the level of his improvement is a little implausible. No matter how talented one is, no one can improve that greatly.”
Xana bit her lips then conceded. “You do have a point.”
Ein shrugged. “May be he’s one of those one’s in a lifetime prodigy. At least he’s on our side.”
Xana smiled in agreement as Lynx nodded slowly. He gazed at his tea silently as image flashed at his mind. Kyle gazing at the runes with knowing yet dark eyes. Too dark. Is he really?
Wondering how he got in this situation, Kyle glanced at the wolf currently eating the burger he offered. A wolf, he thought, how the hell would a wolf be in a park? Much less an injured one! He gazed at the wolf’s leg that he was somehow was able to bandage under the wolf’s cautious gaze.
A rustle broke his thoughts, the wolf was now looking at him curiously. “Oh you’re done. So…why are you in a park? Kyle inquired. The wolf continued staring.
Placing his head at his hands, he spoke. “Great, I’m talking to a wolf.” Lost in thought, he didn’t notice the wolf approaching him slowly. A tap at his leg made him jump. The wolf beside him, examining him. Kyle smiled invitingly, offering his hand.
