Chapter 6

I do hope I'm not wrong, he thought, or else we're dead.

In the dark sky shone a luminescence moon, showing three figures. There were two boys and an elf, the injured boy was being supported by the two. The elf was assessing the road for any dangers, holding a sharpened dagger. A blond boy clutching the sword anxiously, was checking the surroundings while checking his friends condition. The raven head was trying to conserve his energy and also nervously checked his surroundings. There was a tense silence between them as they moved, only to be broken by the elf.

"We are now close to our destination, but please do not relax yet."

Both boys nodded tersely as they gulped.

Kyle look at the elf, frowning. "Who are you?"

The elf spared him a moment. "My name is Lynx, Lynx Xerria. And both your names are?"

"Kyle Chase."

Lynx nodded then looked at Luke, expectantly.

Luke narrowed his eyes then sighed."Luke Cross."

The elf, now known as Lynx, nodded. "May I ask what did you both do to make an orc attack you?"

"Well...may be cause it saw us." Kyle answered, looking down.

Lynx raised his eyebrow, silently questioning them.

Both boys looked at each other. Kyle nodding, trusting his intuition, then Luke sighed. Kyle smiled at his friend, then looked back at Lynx.

He explained everything to Lynx, while he was listening intently.

"I see. It must have been an experience. But I'll admit I'm surprised you both were able to stay alive for that long."

Both boys grimaced at that, and said dryly. "Then we're both lucky."

Lynx looked at Kyle, with a look of thought. "Where have you learned using a sword?"

Luke blinked then frowned. "Yes, where? You haven't told me before."

Kyle froze, he bit his lips looking lost. "I.. don't know...."

Both the elf and the human eyes widened.

Kyle saw their looks, and sighed frustrated. "I don't know alright. It's just... well when it attacked me, my body just moved. I thought it was only reflex, from our training with martial arts Luke, but...I don't know!"

Lynx recovered. "How did it feel? Handling the sword I mean."

Bringing up the sword to his face and examined it. "Natural, I guess. It felt like I've done it thousands of times before."

"I see...that is the first I have heard of this. I apologize I cannot be of help."

"Can't be helped. Thanks anyway Lynx."

Luke looked at Kyle. "We'll figure it out later. First we need to get to our...destination."

After a few minutes, they arrived in front of an abandoned warehouse next to a forest, at the outskirts of town. Both students looked around, curiously and anxiously.

"We are here." Lynx stopped at the rusty doors, and looked at us.

They gave him skeptical looks, saying 'Are you crazy?'

Lynx looked confused for moment, and was suddenly replaced with a look of understanding. "Oh! I apologize I forgot. There is a barrier set up so that no ordinary humans may see or enter it without permission."

Luke blinked and shook his head, muttering. "First orcs, next an elf, then barriers...Great! My sanity is being tested."

Kyle silently agreed with Luke, eyes widened a little.

Lynx, who heard his comment, smiled amusedly. "I, Lynx Xerria, member of Patronus Terrae grants you permission to enter."

As he finished, a sound was heard. The warehouse was cracking little by little and shattered like glass. The once abandoned warehouse now gone, in its place now stood a grand and majestic mansion. Thought it looked a little worn out , it was still clean and well-cared of. It was three story tall, with big windows and a balcony in front. It was painted in white and was covered with very intricate and unique designs intertwining with one another. The once rusting gates was now a wooden door, also carved with the same designs.

The boys were looking at the place with unconcealed awe and surprise. They were both observing the mansion with interest and curiosity.

Kyle's eyes wandered to the designs carved on the door. As he observed the designs, something stirred at the back of his mind. A word suddenly appeared in his mind. Runes , he thought. Eyes widening slightly, as informations filled his head. Glamour Runes, Aversion Runes, Protection Runes.... he thought.

A hand was placed at his shoulder, breaking his thoughts.

"As much as the door seems interesting to you, would you like to come inside?" Lynx asked, raising his eyebrow, smiling.

Luke snorted. "Only you can get so entranced by a door."

Kyle rolled his eyes, then smiled sheepishly. "Sorry bout that. I was just admiring the designs on the door."

Lynx smiled and stood in front of them. "Kyle Chase and Luke Cross, I welcome you to Patronus Terrae." Then he opened the door, inviting them in.

Kyle and Luke looked at each other and nodded anxiously, then looked back at the elf as they stepped in.
