Moment

There's a moment—
When your mind leaves your body and not even the chill of the wind can stir you.
When the constant chatter of nonsensical talk goes right through you and not even the hard push from the person beside you can get your attention.
When you're so far gone from this place that nothing can ground you back on Earth.
When you imagine your life as a 180 degree turn, in another city, with different people, living the life you've always dreamed of living.

There's a moment—
When you forget what is real and what is a figment of your imagination.
When you start creating false memories –snapshots of a life you have never lived before –in your head.

There's a moment—
When reality suddenly hits you in the face.
When it doesn't matter whether you look at the bright city lights in the dark night, or at aimless clouds during the day that you hope are supposed to mean something.

Cannot compare to the real thing; cannot ever compensate for being there.

When a thousand university prospectuses will never compare to actually going to your dream university.
When ten thousand different skies will never compare to Edinburgh's sky.
When hundreds of different beaches will never compare to Greece's beaches.
When mounds of rock will never compare to Table Mountain, no matter how high.
When job after job will never compare to your dream occupation.
When hundreds of thousands of people will never compare to that one person you met on the train.
When the view you see in front of you will never, in any lifetime, compare to what you've imagined in the labyrinth of your head.

When suddenly, you realize that life
Is just made up of small moments that make up big moments that make up even bigger moments that make up days and months and years and memories.
When suddenly, it all goes away in a flash.

There's a moment when you realize that reality will never be like the dream, and the dream will never be the same in reality.
Because reality sucks,
But it gives you the incentive to find your dream.

This is the moment
When you find your dream,
And you never forget it.
