Between me thinking about my past with Ronnie and who I could find that would fulfill my romantic needs, I remembered that I had one last sonogram before I explode. So, I hurry along to go get dress before Raven changes her mind about taking me.
Raven and I get into the car and head to the doctor. I am looking out the window imagining what my life would be like if I was still away at college. With my friends, in my dorm with my roommate Marie.
Marie was the best roommate that you could ask for. We I could say that she was my best friend, after Raven of course. We met our freshman year going into my second semester. The roommate that I had before I even knew Marie was Gabby. She was so awkward and went home every weekend. I think that her whole family lived thirty to forty minutes away from our school's campus. She would only buy food for herself, and even if I did give her money to buy food for me she would always say no. Plus she repeatedly used my hair products and would never replace them if she was the last person to take all of it. She was the most unfriendly person on top of it all.
Marie's roommate was worse, at least I had peace and quiet, Marie's roommate's name was Jan, but her nickname was Rider.
She was known for her great parties, and at every party she would make some guy or girl get on their knees and ride them like a horse.
One-time Marie came home, and some random girl was passed out on their couch and when she went to go tell Rider she was on the bed making out with Marie's boyfriend. Let's just say that Marie almost went to jail that night, for almost sending Rider to the hospital.
Rider ended up dropping out and said that she was going to follow her favorite band while they were on tour. She never told her parents, so they would still send her money for books and stuff. Her friend would send it to her, but she would always take some and never tell Rider.
By Rider leaving that left Marie with her own dorm but it was wrecked from all the parties that would happen every weekend. So, she had to move out and had to pay the school for a small portion of the damage.
Our second semester we both went to the registration office to find a new roommate and bumped into each other. Marie and I fell straight on our butts, and after apologizing we looked at each other noticing that we were still sitting there on the floor. Next thing we know we are laughing about our run in and out roommates from hell over milkshakes. We have been best friends ever since.
Marie and I did everything together, I think that it was because we had the exact same interest. We were inseparable, we could tell each other anything. She was there for me when I found out that I was pregnant. Marie was the one that bought my pregnancy test. Marie was excited surprised and scared all at the same time, and so was I.
Marie was going to be one of the twins Godmother, and Raven was going to be the others. I was so happy when Marie and Raven met, they got along just as well as I thought they would. Now we are all the best of friends and I couldn't ask for anything more.
"Blair! Come on we are here."
I reach as far over as I can to unbuckle my seatbelt. I get out of the car and see an old beat up blue Acura. I look back at Raven.
"Did you tell him that you had an appointment today."
"I don't think I did. The car I empty. You think he is inside?"
Raven and I rush inside to see if it's true. And there he was sitting down in the waiting room, looking as proud as ever.
"Ronnie? What are you doing here?"
I look at him with wide open and alert eyes. I was thrown, my heart dropped to the bottom of my chest, my breathing became shallow as I looked him up and down. How was it possible that he looked even better in the day time. I knew that he said that he was going to be a part of the babies' lives, but I guess it didn't register in my mind that it was going to start the next day.
"I came to see how the babies were doing. You know to make sure everything goes well before the due date. And don't worry about signing yourself in I already did."
As he said all of this I was still processing the fact that he was even there. That he remembered, that he didn't take back his promise to me or more importantly his babies. Right then and there I knew in my heart that he meant what he said, he was going to try to be the best father that he could be. This one little act showed me all that I needed to know, I believed him, and I wasn't thinking as a young girl who was once in love but as a soon to be mother.
I hugged him and whisper in his ear, " thank you for being here. Thank you for being here for them." I kiss him so gently on his warm soft smooth bearded cheek.
He looks me in the eyes, gives a slight smirk in the corner of his mouth and nods in appreciation. I know that by one slight single nod that he really meant that he was going to be in this for the long run.
I unwrap my arms from around Ronnie's neck and I look over at Raven. I can tell that Raven was confused, but glad at the same time. Even though she hated Ronnie for the way things happened between he and I, she knew that I loved him, and if I loved him than she could at least put up with him.
As Raven and Ronnie sit down while I go up to the front desk to tell them that I am here I see Raven look at Ronnie and thanks him. I think that she thanked him for keeping his promise and not letting me down, again. Just knowing that my children will have people in their lives that will always look out for them, makes me realize that they are the best thing that is happening in my life.
I hear my phone vibrating in my purse. Once I get it out I see that it's Big Mama. I look up at Raven and give her the 'it's BigMama look' and she looks back at me with those eyes and I know that it's time for me to face reality.
I answer the phone and put the cold screen to my ear. The screen was cold, but I knew that the tension between Big Ma and I was a blaze. I hear her breathing softly. I can tell that she had been crying.
