" Doctor Ivory this is Ronnie, the father of my beautiful babies." I said it with such pride, it was weird at first but in a good way. Ronnie smiled and shook Doctor Ivory's hand, then sat back down.
" Well it is a pleasure to meet the man that has had the luck of being with such a wonderful woman." There he was putting on his amazing charm.
Once Doctor Ivory was done with his routine we finally got to the sonogram. I looked at Ronnie to tell him that it was time to look at the babies. He got up very quickly and stood next to me and took my hand. Doctor Ivory looked over at us and smiled.
We saw the babies on the screen and I felt Ronnie squeeze my hand. He looked at Doctor Ivory and asked with such concern, " Is everything ok? They have all their toes and fingers and stuff? Do they have a good heartbeat? I read that they should have a very strong heartbeat towards the end of the pregnancy."
Doctor Ivory laughed a little and then looked at the both of us. " Well someone has been doing their homework. The answer is yes to all your questions. Every should go perfectly for your delivery."
Ronnie exhaled and rubbed his forehead. I looked up at I'm and he was smiling from ear to ear. I could tell that was more than happy to know that everything would be alright. Doctor Ivory gave his last speeches and was about to leave when Ronnie grab his arm and ask, " When do you think they will be here?" Doctor Ivory looked at him and said with a smile, "About 2 weeks or less so January 28th." He gave Ronnie a handshake and told me goodbye. Ronnie looked at me and I said with a smile, " January 28th!"
"January 28th!" He rushed over to me and gave me the warmest hugging and got on his knees and kissed my belly a thousand times. We walked out into the waiting room holding each other's hand, Raven looked up and smiled.
" So, I take it that everything went well? " she said with a smug look on her face while looking down at our hands.
"Yes, everything went great we are due on the 28th. That's two weeks from now." Ronnie had this glow about him when he told Raven. It's like he was so ready for the 28th to get here, like he had so much to do before the babies arrived.
"Awe would you look at that pretty boy is smiling from ear to ear. Well we should get going, I thought we could go shopping for a little bit and then order take out."
" Oh, that reminds me Big Ma made roast and invited us over. Ronnie would you like to come?"
Raven looked at me with her mouth wide open and then looked at Ronnie. This made Ronnie smile even more, but I could tell that he was nervous about seeing Big Mama again. The last time that he saw her was when I told her that I was pregnant, and Ronnie was pulling into the driveway, so I could tell him the news too. Big Mama almost flew across the yard to choke him and he had no clue what was coming, it wasn't really the way that I planned on letting him know. But of course, that was the one day that Ronnie showed up early for something. It was a very awkward moment and Big Mama as always looked at him like she was going to kill him for messing with my future, and Ronnie always knew that she wanted to and slightly understood.
"I would love to come. Are you sure that Big Mama would be ok with me coming over I mean with what's happening?"
" Yes, she said that I could bring a friend and you are the friend that I want to bring, so is that a yes?" I ask him by telling him that he is coming. Raven gets her stuff and looks at me like I have just started war, and she didn't want anything to do with it but knew that she had to.
"Yeah that sounds great I would love to come, what time should I be there?"
" You can get there around six, or you could come with me and Raven to the mall to do some last-minute shopping for the babies, but only if you want to."
Ronnie looks like this is the best day of his life. He nods and tells me that he is going to make a quick run to his house and then meet us at the mall. Once he leaves I know that I am either going to get the look from Raven or a lecture. Turns out that I end up getting both.
We get into the car and Raven just sit there in the driver's seat with her hands on the wheel. I am almost afraid to look over at her, but I can feel her staring at me and waiting for an explanation.
"Raven please, Ronnie and I are friends now, and I thought it would be a good idea to spend time with him. Plus, I know for sure that he is going to be in our kids' life's, and even though he won't be a part of my life in a romantic way he will be a part of my life because of the babies. That's all there is too it and I hope that you can learn to accept that." I say all of this without looking at her and hope that she understands where I am coming from and accepts it.
" I just don't want you to get hurt Blair. You mean the world to mean and I have seen Ronnie hurt you before and I don't want to see you have such high hopes just to get them smashed by him. I love you and I don't think that I could take it."
Her eyes are watering up and I know that she is truly concerned about my feelings. That's why she is my best friend and soon to be the Godmother of one my children. I lean over and hug her and kiss her cheek.
" I will be fine sweetie, Ronnie has changed, and he won't hurt me I promise. I love you too Raven." She smiles and starts the car and we head to the mall.
