Chapter 14: The big game

Vadison's POV
I am currently getting dressed into my uniform. I can hear people cheering excited for my team and I to come out to warm up for the huge game. Today is the championship for the Gatorade tournament. There are college scouts coming today, so I need to play my heart out. I hear coach call out, "Hey V! You need to start warming up pitching right now!" I nod and grab Kay for her to warm me up. Yes, Kay and Tay does play softball too! I warm up all of my pitches and I am on today. When I finish, Kay comes and gives me a hug. She says, "Just think this is just me and you practicing. This is our game tonight." I nod and squeeze her tightly. We walk back to the dugout, and we hear the umpire say, "Coaches, Coaches." We look at our opponents which is West High school, and they are our biggest rivals. We need to win this game to show them who's boss. We head to the on deck circle to do our cheer. We start with slow claps and our claps get faster, and Mads says, "SAXONS ON 3! 1-2-3." And we all shout, "SAXONS!" We all cheer at the end because that was the loudest we were ever before. Coach shouts, "We are on D!"

We go on the field and we start warming up. I pitch until the blue finally calls, "Balls in!" So Kay catches the pitch and fires the ball to 2nd, getting a perfect throw. We all say, "Atta girl Kay!" So, the first batter came up to the plate, and she is a slapper. I pitch her a screwball high in the zone, and she pops it up at 3rd. There is one out now. The next batters get out by a ground out and by a fly ball in deep left field caught by Tay. I am so relieved that she caught the ball and I go to her and give her a high five. We go in the dugout to start hitting.

I am the 3rd batter and then the first 2 batters before me got on base. I go up to the plate, and I get ready for the pitch. The pitcher pitches it, and then it was an inside pitch. Inside pitches were my favorites. I load my swing, and then I swing with everything I got. I hear the noise of my CF8 demarini bat and I see the ball soar in deep left field. The ball goes over the fence, and the crowd goes wild. I go run the bases and at the end, I do my ritual to my sisters, which is I point at them and I pump my arms. They repeat the same motion at me. We did this since I was 8 years old. My teammates bombarded me with yelling and cheering. The score now is 3-0.

It is the last inning and the score is 10-11. We are winning by one, and I am pitching. there is 0 outs, and the first batter comes up. I take a deep breath and pitch the ball. The hitter hits it in the gap of 2nd and shortstop, and our shortstop Layla dove for it and she makes the play. We say, "Way to be Lay!" Then I focus on he next batter. She is the 3rd batter, and I pitch her a drop curve for the first pitch. She hits it and it is a shot to me. I have fast reflexes and I catch it (Thank god).2 outs. The batter is cleanup and she hit a grand slam last time. I take a deep breath and pitch a curve. She gets a foul ball towards right field and I'm glad it's foul. I throw a drop ball and she hits it. It is hit in deep center and it is near the fence. The center fielder Alyssa jumps and reaches for the ball. She snowcones it and she makes th play. 3 outs.

We just won the championships and I am jumping with joy and we receive our trophies and plaques. I take it gladly and we take a group picture. I am proud of everyone and how hard we played. After coach talks to us, I see someone approaching us. She greets us and says, "Are you Vadison Parkerson?" I nod and say, "Yes I am Vadison. Is there anything you need?" She says, "I am the softball coach of UH and I think your performance was SPECTACULAR!" I was taken aback, but I replied with a smile, "Thank you!" She says with her hand out for me to shake, "Would you like to sign for our school for softball? I am offering a scholarship for you. I am standing there frozen. I stutter, "Y-y-yes I will sign for UH." I shake her hand and make sure to make our handshake firm. She says with a smile, "Well can you give me your email address? I will message you about incoming events you need to know about. I nod and give her my email. She says, "Alrighty! Nice meeting you Miss Parkerson, and I will see you soon!" I wave and say, "Thank you!"

I go to the bleachers and see my family there. They all say, "Congrats! You played hard out there!" I tell them the news about my signing and then they are jumping with joy. Rosalyn says, "That is your dream school!" I say, "I know! I'm so happy!" I hug both of my sisters and I suddenly see Jay leaning on the wall and I go over to him hesitantly.

I go up to him, and the first thing he does it hugs me. He squeezes me and I hug him back. He put his chin on top of my head and he whispers in my ear, "You played so good today. I am so proud of you." I beam at him and say, "Thanks!" He chuckles lightly and I laugh too. The lights suddenly turn off and darkness engulfs us. I push myself deeper into Jay's chest because I have a slight fear of the dark. He wraps his arm around my waist and says, "Don't worry, I will protect you. I will be with you no matter what." I say, "Promise?" He grabs my hand and links his pinky with mine, and says, "I promise." He seals the promise with a kiss. He leans in and he takes my breath away. Every time we kiss, there are sparks and there is love in our kiss. I wrap my arms around his neck and he reaches for my hair. We kiss for a little bit longer and we resurface for air. We are panting hard, but we immediately dive back in for another kiss which is passionate and loving. I suddenly realize something. I am falling for Jay.

Hey guys! I updated again! I ran out of ideas and I decided to put a softball game for this chapter. I never incorporate softball in this book, so here you go! But I hope this chapter was interesting! But I am so happy for Vadison and Jay right now. But what will Jay think when Vadison is going to move to Hawaii? But don't forget! Vote, Comment, and Share!
