Before you read the chapter below, I was asked this:

Hey. I had a question. I will get straight to the point...btw I love your stories. I was wondering why you don't have a purely innocent character. You know one that hasn't been tainted with tragedy. I like all you characters and their unique backgrounds but I was wondering why you don't have a character that is super important like Chelsea, Etta, Ben, Oakley, sienna, rainy and etc thats has never experienced any bad because I think there are some people whose problems are just not so tragic. Its hard to explain but I was only wondering why. Not criticizing or judging just pure curiosity.

It was sent privately but I'm going to answer here because a lot have asked me the same thing, many many times and I think it's an AWESOME QUESTION. Really, It's a good question. And to start, I think it's about my POV.

For example, Sienna I don't see her as one of the characters that had a troubled past. She was adopted and loved by two men that love each other and her. To me, she's an important character especially when it comes down to book four.

Then there was Walter from Unbroken, his mate had the violins that Chelsea, Ben and Oakley needed to learn to play. Sure he was separated from someone he loves but in the grand scheme of things I consider him one of my "innocent characters."

I think If I'm reading the question correctly, the innocent ones would probably end up being Rinny (Grant and Julia's daughter from Unbroken). But with the way I view the series....

I see a few of them actually:

Oakley for example, I know she had a tough time but I feel like even though Pat sucked, Oakley had more growth to do inside, with herself than with others. She wanted Pat, was just left behind and those emotional scars may seem like she's been tainted with tragedy I still see her as one of those characters that needed personal growth.

Ben, I see him as a totally innocent character as well... he's so wrapped up with Oakley that it seems like he got the same treatment but that wasn't the case at all. He lost his mother yes, but he was so young and the way Oakley stepped in as an older sibling when Pat just checked out, she sort of spared him that loneliness she felt.

Russell, From unconditional, he had some drama but with Declan and Caterina's help he saved Angel.

Jason, Chelsea's adoptive father, yeah he was murdered by Leo, but he is one of my innocent characters... He was a god that gave that up to search for Chelsea.

Lux, helped Jason. Jack, Casey... they stood by Chelsea.

Grant and Julia Lawson (Oakley's aunt and uncle) they are again my supporting characters.

Nonno and Nonna, Greta as well...

Last but not least, Sawyer and Kalani. I know with those two it's difficult maybe to see how I see it, but Sawyer and Tristan it's the same as with Sienna. They were babies when their life was changed but they grew up with a family that adored them. It was hard to find Etta and Kaden, but they made it work.

and Kalani, again the circumstance is tricky because yeah her biological dad and her mom, their choices impacted her life, she's only now having her struggles. Before everything, before Sawyer, she was blissfully unaware and innocent.
